(35-1) Sumrall 11 Pontotoc 4. Andrew Knight was the winning pitcher 6inn 7H 4R 7Ks, Brycen Smith 1inn 2Ks. Cade Dedeaux led us at the plate going 3-4 2RBI. Hayes Raner was 2-2 w/ 3R, 2SB, 2HBP, 1RBI; Ethan Aultman was 2-4 w/ 3 RBI, Walker Long and Levi Odom both had Doubles. WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS!!!!
Ethan Aultman was also awarded the MVP for the State Championship Series.
As the dust has settled some and I’ve had time to reflect, I could not be more proud of our Boys, Coaches, and Bobcat Supporters. What an amazing season we had! To be ranked nationally as high as #2 in some polls “as of right now” is a testament to this teams tenacity and resiliency. This is the first year to win a 4A State Title.
Big thank you for all the kind words and congratulation messages I have received these last few days. What these boys have done on and off the field not only proves how GRITTY they are, but also proves their CHARACTER. To the 16 seniors, words can’t describe how much y’all mean to me. To my coaches, thank you for keeping me in line and keeping this job less stressful. To the parents, thank you for allowing us to invest in your boys and for your support throughout the season. To the Dedeaux family, I wish I could take that horrific day away, but so many wonderful things have happened as a result-such as a team and town motto as well leading several others to their salvation including 2 of our own. We would never want it this way, but impact has rippled not only thru our team, school, community, but thru other schools, other communities and beyond what we probably don’t know and will never know until we are there with her. To the administration, thank you for believing in me and our program. You’ve always been there to support our team. And last, but not least, to my family-Anna, Riley, and Drew. Thank you for putting up with all the late nights, busy weekends, and all the the emotions that come with coaching this amazing team. You all were right there with me, rooting for us, feeling excitement for us, traveling with us, and providing me with an outlet. To Jeremy and Richard and Briana and Vicki for capturing all of these great moments and memories and for the outstanding media support that allowed our fans who were not able to attend the opportunity to share in this win.
Thank you to the Town of Sumrall for packing Trustmark and letting the entire state of MS know how much you love and support Sumrall Baseball. We could not have done it without your support.
