Babies’ bodies respond well to vaccines because their immune systems are in constant learning mode. A baby’s immune system is ready for the hepatitis B vaccine as soon as they are born, and giving newborns the first dose of the vaccine within 24 hours of birth (with additional doses at 1-2 months and 6-18 months) remains the best protection against serious health problems like liver disease and cancer.

Vaccines do not cause autism. Neither does acetaminophen (Tylenol) use in pregnancy. Decades of rigorous research and systematic reviews have shown no credible link. Continuing to promote these myths is not only unproven, it is dangerous. It risks public health by undermining trust and discouraging vaccination, while also distracting from the real work of supporting individuals with autism and their families.

The USPSTF is a core part of my every day practice. It's recommendations are fundamental to primary care physicians' effective delivery of quality healthcare to the citizens of our country. I'll admit, RFK Jr was not my favorite pick for Secretary of HHS. We need to make sure we preserve the work of the USPSTF in what ever restructuring may occur. That's my 2 cents.

This Viewpoint discusses restructuring of the USPSTF while ensuring that its functions are safeguarded to avoid destabilizing vital public health infrastructure.
