It's hard to believe it's already been a year! I'm deeply grateful for this second chance at life. A huge thank you to my selfless donor, Will Hancock, and his kindness that has given me this precious gift. Will and I are doing amazingly well! I'm also thankful for the special friendship Will and I now have!

Today marks one year since we shared our story on Facebook, searching for a donor. Little did we know, God had already orchestrated a life-changing gift. Five months post-transplant, my recovery is going great , and I'm filled with gratitude. God is so good!

Ten weeks post-kidney transplant, I'm thrilled to report that I'm making excellent progress. My doctors are pleased with my recovery, and my lab results are great. My new kidney is functioning beautifully, and I'm on track to return to work soon. I'm feeling stronger and more energetic as my activity increases, while being careful not to overdo it. While I'll need to remain cautious in public due to a higher risk of infection, I'm eager to resume my normal routine. We're deeply grateful for your ongoing support and prayers throughout this journey. I am forever grateful for Will's kindness and, most importantly, God's faithfulness through it all. God is good!

What a year this has been!
In January I was approved to be on the transplant waiting list.
In April the church prayed over me.
In September I had a match and a surgery date.
On December 4th, Will and I had a successful surgery.
Here we are at the end of the year, and I am back home and recovering well. It is hard to believe that I have come this far in only one year. I have said this many times, but it is worth repeating. Thank you to everyone who supported my family and me by praying, sharing, signing up, visiting, giving meals, and everything else! I have felt so moved and loved over the last year, and I will never be able to capture exactly how much it means to me in words.
Also thank you again to Will Hancock for his kindness and for giving me a healthy life again. There is certainly a recovery journey ahead, but I am so thankful that the Lord has brought me to where I am. Happy New Year!

We are home and doing well! We will have weekly follow up appointments in Charleston for a few months, and then they will be monthly for the next year. It feels crazy that the surgery is behind us, and we are going on to recovery!

12/09/2024

We are out of the hospital! We are staying nearby in Charleston for a little while to go to clinic and make sure everything is going well. Everything looks good so far, and we may be able to return home by this weekend. Praise the Lord, and thank you all for the prayers!

Post Surgery celebration today! Please continue to pray for our recoveries!

12/05/2024

The surgery was a success. What a day. God is good. It only took about 2.5 hours, and both Will and Doug are doing well in recovery now! We will keep you updated. Thank you for all your prayers and continued prayers for our recovery!

12/04/2024

The surgery is tomorrow, December 4th, at 7:30am! This is just one example of God's work and kindness. We are so thankful for your prayers and help getting us to this day.

God has truly blessed us, and we have so much to be thankful for. I'm so thankful for Will Hancock and his selfless decision to donate a kidney to me!

PLEASE SHARE - UPDATE FOR DOUG:

I am excited to let you know that I officially have an organ donor! One of our church members has graciously come forward to donate.
The Lord has been so kind to us. First, I want to praise him for his provision and kindness. Second, I want to thank my donor for his kindness. It is difficult to put into words just what this means to me and to my family. Your kind heart and generosity is appreciated more than you can possibly know. Third, I want to thank everyone who signed up to get tested, shared our post, and/or prayed for this process. This could not have happened without your help, and I thank God for you.

The surgery is scheduled for December 4th. You can continue to help us by praying for a few things.
1. Continued health for me and the donor
2. A successful and safe surgery without complications
3. The recovery after the surgery for me and the donor. You can pray specifically that the donor recovers well and stays healthy. You can also pray that my body accepts the kidney without complication
4. That the Lord would sustain my family and the donors family with patience, love, and grace.

**SECOND UPDATE 10/9/24************
We officially have a donor! I am so thankful to everyone who shared this, prayed for us, and signed up to get tested. I am especially thankful to the donor for his generosity and kindness. My family and I appreciate this more than we can possibly express.
Please pray for the surgery on Dec 4th. Pray for my health and the health of the donor both before and after the surgery. Also pray that the Lord would sustain us and our families! Thank you all so very much for sharing and making this possible.

UPDATE ON DOUG'S KIDNEY - PLEASE SHARE:

I want to say thank you to everyone who has prayed for us, shared our post, and signed up to get tested. I cannot express just how much your support means to me and my family, and I wanted to update you all on my situation.
At my most recent appointment, we were told that my kidney function has decreased to 17-18%, and if the function continues to decrease I will have to go on dialysis in order to prevent kidney failure. We want to avoid dialysis and kidney failure by finding a living kidney donor. Your continued support is still needed, and you can still help us in a few ways.

1. Pray for my health, for my family as we go through this, and for my future donor.
2. Share this post. Help us continue to get the word out to people who can help.
3. Consider donating yourself. My insurance covers the cost, and your generosity really could save my life. The link at the bottom of the post will direct you to the donation form.
