Did you know that increased activity could delay Alzheimer's disease progression? A new observational study published yesterday (11/3/2025) in the journal Nature Medicine, found that individuals who walked 3,000 to 5,000 steps daily delayed cognitive decline by 3 years, and those who walked 5,000 to 7,500 steps daily delayed cognitive decline by seven years. So get out there and WALK!

Can modest activity levels make a difference?

Wow, 280 pediatric deaths last year from influenza, with 89% of those children being unvaccinated against the flu. So sad, such a preventable thing.

Two new reports this week from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) provide more detail on the deadliest flu season for US children in more than a decade.

Babies’ bodies respond well to vaccines because their immune systems are in constant learning mode. A baby’s immune system is ready for the hepatitis B vaccine as soon as they are born, and giving newborns the first dose of the vaccine within 24 hours of birth (with additional doses at 1-2 months and 6-18 months) remains the best protection against serious health problems like liver disease and cancer.

Vaccines do not cause autism. Neither does acetaminophen (Tylenol) use in pregnancy. Decades of rigorous research and systematic reviews have shown no credible link. Continuing to promote these myths is not only unproven, it is dangerous. It risks public health by undermining trust and discouraging vaccination, while also distracting from the real work of supporting individuals with autism and their families.

The will continue to uphold scientific rigor and review any new evidence thoroughly. Families deserve nothing less. Read our full statement here: https://bit.ly/48AlBZE

Interesting read. It looks like patients over the last few years have had cost sharing applied to their preventative services, like colonoscopies and mammograms, by insurance companies pursuant to recent court decisions. The Supreme Court of the US has now overturned that, thus again requiring insurance companies to cover at 100% without cost sharing (deductibles and copays) any preventative service designated an A or B by the United States Preventative Services Task Force. This is a major win for patients.

The USPSTF is a core part of my every day practice. It's recommendations are fundamental to primary care physicians' effective delivery of quality healthcare to the citizens of our country. I'll admit, RFK Jr was not my favorite pick for Secretary of HHS. We need to make sure we preserve the work of the USPSTF in what ever restructuring may occur. That's my 2 cents.

This Viewpoint discusses restructuring of the USPSTF while ensuring that its functions are safeguarded to avoid destabilizing vital public health infrastructure.
