My name is Maya and I have a BUSY BRAIN 🧠 💥

Cross handed holds are a Myofascial Release Technique, using gentle pressure over time (3-5mins!) to signal to your fascial system that it can relax and shift.

These techniques are useful for areas of persistent tension, scar tissue, muscle shortening, and they provide a deep approach without using a lot of pressure.

It’s also serves as a great practice of patience and awareness for me and my spicy brain, yet the ear worms always persist 🪱😅

This is one of my favorite ways to start working into the back.

In my practice, I start broad before tuning in to more specific areas of tension. I find that this helps the nervous system settle in, get used to my touch, and builds trust before addressing more tender areas.

Plus is just feels really good 🤤

Don’t let spooky season catch you of guard! Trick or Treat yourself to a massage soon! 🎃

You know where to go! 🔗

P.S I’m always here via DM to answer questions or concerns you have before booking a session with me. I’m all about transparency and want you to feel as comfortable and confident as possible before getting on the table. 🫶🏻

I figured it was time for a little re-introduction, so hey there folks! I’m Maya, a Massage Therapist located in the Madison area. 😊

I recently changed my insta handle to align more with my work, and because…I mean common… MAYAfascia?!! How could I not. 🤪

Different name, same game: pulling the veil back on bodywork + empowering you to take care of the vessel you call home.

As a bodyworker, I am passionate about working alongside the nervous system to soothe Myofascial tension patterns, reduce pain, and increase mobility in joints and tissues so you can continue doing what you love.

I also strive to educate clients (and anyone who will listen🤭) about self care + how to manage pain at home. I love it so much, I put together and taught a partner massage workshop earlier this year —and it was a blast! I look forward to more events and classes in the future.

If you’re interested in keeping up with me off of social media, I write and send a semi-regular email newsletter that I adoringly named “Dear Body”. It’s an all inclusive space to nurture a more compassionate relationship with your body. 🫀

My goal is to create a safe space on my table, for anyone and any body. We all deserve to be taken care of, yes, even you, friend. 🌿

When I’m not at the studio you can find me hanging with friends, making up silly songs in my kitchen with my partner G, snuggling my orange tabby, or recording a Dungeons and Dragons podcast with my family 🐉 ( ilysm)

You can book with me, give me a review, or sign up for Dear Body at the inklay inay myay iobay (pig Latin, anyone?)

That’s enough for now, I dare you to have a good day, not take life too seriously, and be nice to yourself!! 🫵🏻

K love you bye 😘

*ahem* let me step up onto my soap box for a moment… 📦

There is ~so such thing~ as a “bad” body part.

For better or worse, we are interconnected with our bodies + they listen. If we are constantly injecting fear and negativity towards sensations in our systems, we are only adding noise to the alarms that are already sounding.

I encourage you to pause + reframe to curiosity the next time you have discomfort, or a part of your body is talking to you.

Try these alternatives to labeling and isolating a part of your body as “bad”

❣️ my injured ____

❣️ my ____ is trying it’s best

❣️ my ____ has been talking to me recently, and I’m ready to listen.

❣️ my ____ needs a little extra attention + support.

If you struggle to find compassion for discomfort in your body, know that you aren’t alone. The pain response is evolutionarily meant to get your attention, but that attention doesn’t need to be negative.

These small shifts can help to lessen your nervous systems response to pain, hopefully leading to turning down the dial on your sensation in the long run.

You won’t be perfect, I know I’m not, but the intentional shift towards curiosity and listening has improved my relationship with pain + my body. ❤️‍🩹

Repeat after me: “we listen and we don’t judge”

If you want to learn more about ways to meet your body with compassion, subscribe to my email newsletter: Dear Body. (🔗 in B!o)

In it I will be exploring ways to meet your body where it’s at, introducing ways to take care of your body at home, and much more. 🌿

Okay, stepping of the soap box now, happy reframing! You’ve got this! 💪🏻
