The INFJ door slam is a deliberate process of emotional withdrawal. It begins with immense patience, where the INFJ provides repeated opportunities for growth and communicates feelings with absolute clarity.
They remain in the connection far longer than most, fueled by the belief that genuine effort can repair what matters.
Over time, when the same destructive patterns persist and conversations circle without change, a profound exhaustion takes hold. The energy to maintain the bond fades.
This shift manifests as shorter responses, less frequent outreach, and a withdrawal into silence. These subtle changes mark the internal transition from hope to necessity.
The final decision forms long before it becomes visible. By the time the distance is apparent, the internal closure is already complete. What appears sudden to an outside observer is actually the result of months of silent reflection.
Visible emotion signifies that a person still cares. Conflict and sadness are signs of investment.
When the INFJ becomes entirely calm and distant, the connection is gone.
This final boundary is a firm commitment to personal peace and the ultimate act of self-preservation.
