Today, choose to do something different.

Treat yourself.
To a calming peaceful activity you enjoy. One of the biggest gifts you can give others is your time. If you don’t have one, find one. Give yourself the gift for 30 minutes to do something special for yourself.
When we don’t allow ourselves that time, your behavior is telling yourself you’re not worth it.

I had an experience recently with one of my clients who is 69 and of the boomer generation out in the dating world. She told me about a new prospect she was out with and they were, "muggin' out."

I never heard that before….Does that sound like what I think it is? A make out session??

The slang words used by different generations usually translate and Gen Zers new phrases can be "translated" pretty easily to a boomer equivalent.
Fire: "Fire" is used to refer to something that is really cool and amazing.

The boomer slang equivalent of "fire" is "groovy."

Lit: "Lit" is an adjective to describe when something's amazing, exciting, high-energy, or otherwise great. It can alternatively mean intoxicated or drunk.

The boomer slang equivalent of "lit" is "loaded."

Pretty fire. 🔥 That's lit. 🔥 Muggin' out. 😘

February is International Boost Self-Esteem Month.
This is a month to promote confidence and boost self-esteem. One thing I work on with clients is boosting self-esteem which is often connected to our own views of our self-worth, or some other wounding even from childhood. If we do not have SELF esteem, we get our esteem from OTHERS, others esteem, and believe we are what others define us to be.
Don’t let others tell you who you are or who you can be.

Boosting self esteem and self confidence can be a preventative measure against mental health disorders and one way to do this is though positive self-talk.
What we tell ourselves, we BELIEVE, we BEHAVE, we BECOME.

Boosting self-esteem can increase feelings of worth which helps you manage feelings of sadness, emptiness, and major adjustments in life . Low self-esteem is one of the main major depression causes.

Stop the negative self-talk
Your words and thoughts about yourself shape your perception and self-esteem.
Use words of affirmation DAILY and tell yourself this OUT LOUD.
“I appreciate and acknowledge all of me.”
“I love and accept myself.”
“I allow my true self to flourish.”
“I am successful in everything I do.”

Accept your “flaws”
We all have flaws or things we wish we could change or improve in ourselves. You are HUMAN. Do not let things things become overpowering to your self esteem.
Learn to identify which of these are things that can we worked on from those that are unchangeable and to be ACCEPTED.
From acceptance we stop spending time and energy on things we do not like and start to focus on the STRENGTHS to build on.

Celebrate your strengths
Identify the things you LIKE about yourself or others have shared with you. This may be your personality, abilities, physically or your relationships with others.
“I have integrity and my friends trust me.”
“I inspire those around me.”
“I am at peace with my past.”
“I make people laugh.”

Practice self-care
Managing daily stress is important in maintaining healthy mental health. Planning and scheduling this time just like an “appointment” may help you set time aside on your schedule to make it happen. You deserve an appointment with yourself. Going to bed early, taking a long bath, taking a walk, planning a fun outdoor activity are all ways to increase feelings of well-being to support self-care practices to increase self esteem.
