Post-surgical wound complications can be difficult to manage—especially for patients with diabetes and a history of smoking.

This 65-year-old male presented with wound dehiscence and tendon exposure after a wrist ganglion cyst excision. After limited progress with conservative care, amniotic membrane allografts were applied, achieving full closure by week 23. No recurrence was noted at 6-month follow-up.

Rapid Wound Care brings physician-led advanced wound treatment directly to the home, reducing infection risk, unnecessary ER visits, and caregiver burden.

Slow-to-heal wounds? Check the nutrition.

The article breaks down an 8-point plan that supports collagen formation, immune function, and tissue repair:

• Protein: ~1.2–2.0 g/kg/day to fuel rebuilding
• Vitamin C for collagen cross-linking and antioxidant defense
• Zinc for enzyme activity and infection control
• Arginine to support perfusion and growth
• Omega-3s to keep inflammation in check
• Glutamine for high-stress recovery states
• Micronutrient coverage to close gaps
• Hydration + electrolytes to keep everything moving

A 65-year-old diabetic male smoker developed wound dehiscence after wrist ganglion cyst excision.

Initial treatment involved debridement and collagen dressing, followed by negative pressure therapy. When tendon exposure persisted, an amniotic membrane graft was applied at weeks 15, 17, and 20.

The wound closed by week 23 and remained healed at one- and six-month follow-up.

This case demonstrates how advanced wound care supports healing in high-risk patients with complicating factors like diabetes and smoking.

A 53-year-old woman developed a non-healing surgical wound after elbow surgery.
She relied on forearm crutches and lived with rheumatoid and osteoarthritis, which made recovery more complex.

Treatment began with in-office debridement, topical medicinal honey, and splinting. At five weeks, negative pressure therapy was added. When progress slowed, an amniotic allograft was applied at week eight.

The wound closed within three weeks and remained healed at one- and six-month follow-up.

This case shows how timely, coordinated interventions drive lasting healing.

Rapid Wound Care delivers physician-led treatment where it matters most — in the home.
