Mike made a sheet metal sled to cart the logs delivered to us by the nearby logging crew to our sawmill, in order to turn the logs into lumber for the sauna build. The sled worked great! It kept the logs from digging in and getting all muddied up on the ground along the way. We've gotten so much rain here lately! According to our rain gauge we've collected 1.81 inches since the start of November.

Today, Nov 18, marks the start of fresh terrain for us here at EM. This will be our first full winter in the woods this year. The latest in the year we've been here is Nov 17. So from here on out through February 18 (we got home on Feb 19 earlier this year) will be new territory for us to explore & experience :)

Soon we will be entering new terrain here at EM. Since moving here and starting EM in July of 2022, we’ve not spent a full winter here in the woods, so this coming winter will be our first full go. In 2022, we headed south in mid-October and returned home in mid-April of 2023. In 2023 - when I sta

Firewood prep steps 1 & 2 are done. Wood delivered: check. Wood moved, stacked & covered: check. One last step to go, which is the biggest: chopping it all down to a size small enough to fit into our cozy little wood stove.

When you live in a 12×14 cabin it wonderfully doesn't take much wood to keep it toasty warm :) We'll see if one cord lasts us the whole winter.

Just got a cord of firewood delivered to burn in our wood stove to keep us cozy warm in our cabin this fall & winter. Gratitude for the trees and the loggers and the nice guy who delivered the wood.

Today's EM pics: from the flicker friend who visited our porch to the collapsed canvas tent we had to re-erect to dry it out before we pack it up & store it for the winter to the window Mike installed in the sauna building.

We had our first snow of the season on the ground here at EM on Nov 3, which stuck around in patches for a couple of days but now is gone. We’ve had a particularly wet fall. Based on what we keep track of through our rain gauge, we received 2-inches of rain in October and already 1.37-inches this ...

Can you guess which one I made and which one Mike made on our woods walkabout today? :)
