Women Infants & Children Special Supplemental Nutrition Program (WIC) is a non-profit organization funded by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). This program provides supplemental nutritious foods, referrals to other health and nutrition services, breastfeeding education and support, and nutrition education to pregnant, postpartum, and breastfeeding women, infants, and children up to the age of five. WIC is successful in improving the quality of prenatal care, encouraging healthful weight gain throughout pregnancy, lowering the number of fetal deaths/infant mortality, lowering low-birthweight rates, improving growth among infants and children, lowering the prevalence of iron deficiency anemia, increasing intellectual abilities in children, and improving the diets of women, infants, and children so that they can achieve and maintain optimal health. The letter must contain the complainant’s name, address, telephone number, and a written description of the alleged discriminatory action in sufficient detail to inform the Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights (ASCR) about the nature and date of an alleged civil rights violation.
