Today is World Bipolar Day.

One of the biggest misconceptions about bipolar disorder is that mania means “happy” and is all about "exciting and fun" times, while depression means “suicidal.” The reality is a lot more complex than that.

Mania can look like irritability, restlessness, fixed thoughts that are unsual, altered reality, or feeling constantly on edge.

Depression can include sleeping a lot, withdrawal, cancelling appointments, sadness, loss of interest, and weight gain or loss.

“Bipolar irritability” is one of the most common ways it shows up, even more than the highs or lows people expect. It includes a sense of urgency and underlying irritability.

Treatment doesn’t look the same for everyone. Medication is often recommended, but recovery can also include years of therapy, skill-building, daily commitment, and in some cases, sobriety.

From the outside, it might look like a person is “better” or "healed," but the truth is, this is something they manage every single day.

Today is about understanding that bipolar disorder isn’t one-size-fits-all and neither is recovery.

Hello friends! We have a guest who could use some camping supplies (used is ok): an ax or hatchet for wood, tarps, water container & anything else that may help.

We can always use blankets, sleeping bags, tarps, mens sweatpants/running pants, tshirts, sweatshirts, spring jackets, etc ...

As it warms up, we may have other guests who need things.
