Recently, I saw a new patient who presented with severe pain in her lower right abdomen. All diagnostic tests were normal, yet for two solid years she has been in daily and excruciating nerve pain that no doctor could explain.
During her intake, she shared that she recently had breast implants removed because she intuitively felt they were related to her abdominal pain, even though the doctor insisted they weren’t. Unfortunately, the explant surgery did not resolve her pain.
She mentioned the only thing that has happened since the explant was her husband noticed her face no longer turned red.
As soon as she said that, flares went off in my head. The Stomach channel expresses on the face, right in the area where she said her face used to turn red. The Stomach channel also runs right through the breast tissue. It was easy to explain. The implants caused an obstruction to the channel. The scar tissue related to those implants added to the obstruction. Removing the implants didn’t address the scar tissue though, thus her pain never changed.
Her words to me were, “I like that you think outside of the box.”
My answer to her was, “in my world there is no box.”
We got to work with my signature treatment, which is a hybrid approach of the John Barnes approach to Myofascial Release with acupuncture
Her pain that had been at a steady 8/10 for two years was reduced to a 3/10 immediately. With a six session intensive series I am confident we will get her pain level down to 0/10.
As my teacher, John Barnes says, “find the pain, look elsewhere for the cause.”
