🎬 Memory Care Outing ✨
Yesterday our Memory Care family enjoyed a wonderful trip to the movies to see Running Man! 🍿
From the excitement of getting out into the community to the simple joy of settling into our seats with snacks in hand, our residents had such a meaningful and engaging afternoon. Moments like these bring smiles, spark memories, and remind us just how special shared experiences can be. 💛
By the way, the movie was amazing!!!

We don’t realize how quickly life can change. One day my mother said a sentence that somehow rearranged my entire world:

“Do you mind if I stay with you for a little while? The house gets too quiet at night.”

She said it softly, almost casually — like she was asking for a glass of water, not admitting that loneliness had begun to sit beside her after sunset.

She’s 79 now.
Still witty.
Still insistently independent.
Still convinced she can carry grocery bags that would make me struggle.

But silence is something age makes heavier.

So of course I said yes.
I thought she just needed company.

I didn’t realize I did too.

🍵 She Brought Her Own Rhythm Into My Home

Every night around the same time — 6:45 p.m. — she taps her knuckles gently on my bedroom door and says:

“Let’s stretch our legs before the dark comes.”

Not as a request.
As a gentle announcement.

And we walk.

Slowly.
Softly.
Like the world is less something to conquer and more something to appreciate.

On these walks, she notices everything:

“Someone painted their porch.”
“That bird’s been following us the whole block.”
“The air smells like rain… listen, can you hear it?”

It amazes me how age turns the smallest things into a kind of poetry.

🌅 The Moment That Changed Me

One evening, halfway down the sidewalk, she stopped.

She lifted her face toward the sky — streaked with orange and lavender — and whispered:

“Your grandmother used to tell me that dusk was the hour when the world finally exhaled.”

Her voice wasn’t sad.
Just full of memories that still lived inside her.

I realized then she wasn’t just sharing stories.

She was passing down a way of seeing the world.

🤍 And Then Came the Gesture I Didn’t Expect

Last week, as we rounded the corner back to my house, she reached for my hand.

She didn’t ask.
She didn’t warn me.
She just slipped her small, cool fingers into mine the way she used to when I was five and afraid of crossing the street.

And she said:

“It’s nice walking with someone who notices I’m here.”

I felt something tighten in my chest.

Because she didn’t mean the walk.

She meant life.

In that moment, I understood something I’d been avoiding:

One day, these walks will stop.
One day, 6:45 p.m. will feel too quiet.
One day, I’ll look at the empty sidewalk and wish I had taken a hundred more steps beside her.

💛 The Lesson

We think love lives in grand moments.
It doesn’t.

It lives in:

• a slow walk around a block
• a familiar voice telling a familiar story
• the warmth of a hand you thought you’d never hold again
• the shared silence between a mother and a grown child

Growing older changes people.
But it also changes the way we see them.

If you’re lucky enough to have a parent who still wants your company —
go.

Go even if you’re tired.
Go even if the day was long.
Go because one day you’ll realize the smallest walks…
were actually the biggest gifts.

Yesterday we welcomed our wonderful friends from Suncrest Hospice & Palliative Care, and our community was instantly filled with warmth, joy, and connection.

Together, we spent the afternoon creating the cutest little turkey crafts full of color, personality, and plenty of smiles.
🎨 Feathers, glue, laughter, and gentle hands…
💛 Every turkey was one-of-a-kind, just like the moments we shared.

These visits remind us how meaningful it is to come together, create together, and feel supported by partners who truly care.
