Braxton Co Animal Shelter

Braxton Co Animal Shelter Hours: Monday-Friday 10-3
Please call 304-765-2200 to inquire about a dog. Located in Sutton, WV Our hours are Monday through Friday from 10am-3pm.

There is no charge to surrender a dog, but donations toward their care are appreciated. Adoptions fees are $149.00 for male dogs and $169.00 for female dogs. This fee includes spay/neuter surgery, rabies vaccination, parvo/distemper vaccination, kennel cough vaccination, flea/tick treatment and deworming. We are sorry, but we do not have the proper ventilation or capacity to take cats. Our goal is to help control the pet population and place dogs in loving, FOREVER homes. No dog will leave the shelter unfixed, so please do not ask to adopt an unspayed or un-neutered pet. We are very willing to work with reputable 501c3 rescues, so please don't hesitate to call 304-765-2200. Your credentials will be checked. Dogs on stray hold will be placed for adoption/rescue after their 5 day hold has ended. Please call the shelter for info on adoption and speak with our adoption/rescue coordinator Megan.

Hey Everyone! We are helping a generous client find homes for these sweet puppies! These four (spayed) female are around 6 months old, range in size from 35-45lbs, and are super sweet and calm! They were spayed this past week, have had their rabies vaccination and 1 round of puppy combo vaccines. The owners generously opened their home to a stray pregnant dog and have fed, vaccinated, spayed these puppies. They would love for each of them to go to a loving home and are not asking for any monetary reimbursement for their care. Please give us a call at the hospital if you are interested in adopting one of these sweet pups!

🚨 MISSING: Chris Palmer & his dog Zoey 🚨

Chris Palmer has been missing since early January 2026, and his disappearance raises serious questions.

Chris is an experienced camper who frequently traveled through national forests—always responsibly, always keeping his family informed.

🗺️ Where he said he was going:
• George Washington National Forest, Virginia
• Monongahela National Forest, West Virginia

🚗 What actually happened:
On January 10, 2026, Chris’s red Ford F-250 was found abandoned on a beach in Buxton, North Carolina.

❗ No Chris
❗ No dog (Zoey)
❗ No explanation

That location is over six hours away in the opposite direction of where he told his family he was headed.

⚠️ Why this matters:
• Multiple states involved
• Federal land jurisdiction
• Active search using infrared drones
• Missing person and missing dog
• Unexplained abandoned vehicle

This is not a simple missing persons case.
And it should not fade from anyone’s timeline.

Law enforcement and the National Park Service are actively searching, but public awareness is critical.
Someone may have seen Chris.
Someone may have seen Zoey.
Someone may recognize the truck.
One small detail could change everything.

👉 PLEASE HELP BY DOING ONE THING:
• Comment to boost visibility
• Tag friends in North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, and Tennessee
• Especially anyone near Buxton or the Outer Banks

Even if you don’t know him.
Even if you’ve never shared before.
Even if you think it won’t help.

This family deserves answers.
Chris deserves to be found.
Zoey deserves to come home.

🕯️ Please don’t let this disappear.

Chad 🐕

Chad is around 8 months old, male boxer mix maybe. He was picked up on the interstate locally by animal control. He weighs 54.2lbs. For being so young he’s a very chill guy. He forever looks worried because of his cute lil forehead wrinkles. He can be shy but not overly scared and he warms up fast with some love and pets. Chad is friendly with other dogs but cannot be fed with other dogs. We had him rooming with another male and they did great until feeding time and they had to be separated. He is treat motivated and very gentle on a leash. Our shelter cat swatted at him and he looked sad and walked away. He doesn’t jump up and is very curious and loves to sniff around. If you would like to meet this hunk of wrinkles and sweetness, stop by or give us a call at 765-2200.

Santa Paws made a very special pit stop at our animal shelter today to say Merry Christmas to some of our current furry residents and to bring them each a sweet treat bag for being good little puppy boys and girls! 🐾❤️🎅🏻

This was such a fun experience to witness. The dogs seem to love Santa just as much as the kids do - (nose kisses and all). 😂
Thank you Jon and Ashlee Dangerfield - State Farm Agent for taking the time to do something so special for our pups.
If you see someone who might be a great candidate to become your furever family member stop by the shelter to meet them or give us a call! 765-2200
