Are you on your feet all day? Here are 4 quick, PT-approved exercises you can do at home to relieve sore, tired feet 👣

1️⃣ Ball Arch Roll Outs – Massage and mobilize those tight arches.
2️⃣ Toe Stretch + Ankle Rolls – Boost circulation and loosen stiff joints.
3️⃣ Toe Splays + Towel Scrunches – Strengthen those often-forgotten foot muscles.
4️⃣ Heel Raises w/ Ball Squeeze – Improve balance and build lower leg endurance.

Why does it matter? Foot fatigue can lead to ankle, knee, or even hip pain over time. Strengthening and mobilizing your feet helps your entire kinetic chain work better from the ground up!

💡 Try these at the end of your day or before bed for quick relief.

If your lower back always flares up when you lift, the problem probably isn’t your strength, but rather your mechanics!

The hip hinge is the foundation of safe lifting. It teaches your body to move from the hips (where your power comes from) instead of overloading your spine.

Here’s why it matters 👇
✅ Protects your low back from strain and injury
✅ Activates glutes + hamstrings to do the heavy lifting
✅ Improves posture + stability in everyday movements

Try practicing with a dowel or broomstick against your back. It should stay in contact with your head, spine, and tailbone as you hinge. If it lifts off, you’re bending, not hinging!

📍At Concierge Physical Therapy, we help patients move smarter (not just harder) so you can lift, play, and live pain-free. Serving Central MA + MetroWest with 5 locations!

Easily Prevent Kneecap Pain

Kneecap pain, commonly referred to as patellofemoral pain, impacts 20% of the active population each year. Many experience it with walking, running, going up/downstairs, or standing up from a chair. This month, we have three good exercises to help keep your knee stable and reduce the risk of experiencing kneecap pain.

Neuroplasticity is your brain and nervous system’s ability to rewire and adapt, and it’s one of the most powerful tools we use in physical therapy! 🧠

Whether you’re recovering from an injury, stroke, or working on balance and coordination, your nervous system learns through repetition and challenge. Here’s how we make that happen 👇

1️⃣ Intensity – The brain learns best when it’s fully engaged. That means purposeful effort; not just harder workouts, but focused, challenging movement that fires up the nervous system.
2️⃣ Repetitions – Practice makes pathways. The more you repeat a movement correctly, the stronger the neural connection becomes. Consistency literally reshapes how your body moves!
3️⃣ Salience – It has to MATTER. When exercises connect to real-life goals (like picking up your baby, walking your dog or playing pickleball again), the brain pays attention and learns faster.

That’s how physical therapy helps you retrain movement, rebuild coordination, and regain confidence through true brain-body connection.

🔥 PT-Approved Upper Body Warm-Up You Shouldn’t Skip!

Before you lift, swing a golf club, hit the court, or even sit at your desk all day, your spine and shoulder muscles need to wake up. Rachael walks through a full upper-body warmup that keeps your thoracic spine mobile, shoulders stable, and posture on point.

Why it matters:
Tight upper backs and sleepy postural muscles lead to shoulder pain, neck strain, and decreased power. This warm-up activates, opens, and stabilizes everything from your thoracic spine to your rotator cuff.

The Sequence:
1️⃣ Thoracic Rotations – Loosens mid-back stiffness for better shoulder rotation.
2️⃣ Thoracic Extension – Reverses slouching and preps your spine for overhead movements.
3️⃣ Thoracic Flexion/Extension Waves – Improves spine control and mobility through full range.
4️⃣ Banded Pull-Aparts – Activates your upper back/postural muscles to support your shoulders.
5️⃣ Behind-the-Back Pull-Aparts – Targets mid/lower traps for stronger shoulder stability.
6️⃣ Swimmers – Opens chest, activates shoulder blades, improves scapular rhythm.
7️⃣ Y’s (prone) – Strengthens lower traps and combats rounded shoulders.
8️⃣ T’s (prone) – Activates mid traps and posterior delts for better posture + shoulder control.

✅ Do 8–12 reps of each, slow and controlled.
✅ Perfect for warmups before lifting, climbing, pickleball, golf, or long workdays.
