The myth that children and/or surrogates are being exploited by the surrogacy process is simply not true. A lot more goes into being a surrogate than you think - and not “just anyone” can be a surrogate.
First, there is always a legal agreement set in place to protect surrogates (and intended parents). Both parties legally agree to participate in this process. Women go through intense health screenings to confirm they are an ideal candidate. Both surrogates and intended parents have the right to choose who they match with and are encouraged to speak up if they don’t think it’s a good fit.
Second, the reason surrogacy exists is so that people who want to be parents but are not able to be naturally, can still have kids and raise a family just like anyone else, which is truly a beautiful and wholesome reason.
There’s no coercion or forceful tactics. Just an individual who is voluntarily willing to make someone’s dream of having a family come true. 🤎 Of course, working with an agency like ours with a long-standing history of trust and success is important.

There are a few important things you may not realize can affect your eligibility to become a surrogate, and it is helpful to understand them early.
Your pregnancy history is one of the first things we look at. While having a healthy prior pregnancy is essential, certain complications in a past pregnancy can either make you an ideal candidate or, in some cases, disqualify you.
Other factors that can impact your eligibility include your BMI, your age, and even your history with antidepressant use. These are all things we review carefully to ensure a safe and successful surrogacy journey for everyone involved.
We also compare your application to your medical records to verify that everything matches. This is why being honest and thorough when you fill out your application is so important. It helps us move through the process smoothly and ensures that clinics and intended parents have a clear picture from the very beginning.
If you’re thinking about becoming a surrogate, take time to reflect on your health history now and start gathering your medical records so you are ready when the time comes.
This journey is incredibly rewarding, and preparation is key to setting yourself, the intended parents, and the entire care team up for success.
