Lots of snow ⛄️ coming!
Massage Therapists see a lot of folks after heavy snow days with shoveling caused shoulder and back tension, muscle pulls, and pain.
Here’s some do’s:
- Stretch first. Bend forward, to each side, and lean back as you are able. Rotate your arms slowly in windmills at your sides. Reach each arm in the air, hold your hands behind your back if you can.
- Start shoveling hydrated, and not immediately after eating a big meal or smoking.
-Shoveling will warm you up. Cover all the skin you can… but don’t dress in a way that overheats you or restricts your movement.
- If you start to feel tension, take a break.
- If your mind wanders to stories of frustration, burden, disappointment etc… it’s okay. Feel your feeling and take a break.
Do something only for yourself that you enjoy, turn your mind stories gradually toward how nice it will be to be shoveled out, safe, and at rest.
If you want to overachieve… turn those thoughts to a fun time you’ve had in the snow in the past! A little at a time, your thoughts may reshape your body feelings.
I love it when you visit my massage table, but I love it most when you move through life empowered and with ease.
