Our Story

Our true foundation is stronger than brick and mortar, it’s rooted in our founder’s legacy of compassion and kindness toward our customers.

In 1964, Cecil Mitchell established his first nursing care residence. He continued the care started in that first facility for four decades by owning and managing several facilities in Northwest Ohio. After attempt at retirement, Cecil Mitchell built Swanton Health Care & Retirement Center in 1985, at the age of 67, with a continued vision of a community for older adults with its foundation based on family values.

The legacy of caring and family values is still thriving today. With three generations having served those who have chosen to call Swanton Health Care & Retirement Center “home”, we are able to honor Mr. Mitchell’s legacy by continuing to offer today’s older adults, who want to shape their own retirement lifestyle, the right amount of assistance and by providing a choice of residences, many are able to enjoy a secure, pampered and customized place to call home.
