Usually Iโm not a big drama person but Iโm honestly concerned , we made a post to the community page offering shelters after making pleas all week for Michigan communities to care for strays and to bring in personal pets๏ฟผ. We were mostly met with love support and willingness to help but as you all know there are always the few who are just absolutely hateful!
In the Second comment thread youโll see an elderly gentleman commenting that stray cats are โTarget Practiceโ and in the third youโll see a โ licensed DNR officer and wildlife trapperโ claiming that cats are a nuisance species and only spread diseasesโ . ๐ณ (weโll get back to this in a moment)
I then proceed ๏ฟผ to explain harming or killing cats is illegal and offered to help in the healthiest way we know how to help stray cats in 2026. I also explained that cats are not any more diseased than the wildlife that run through their yards on a daily basis. I also explained that cats are not a danger to wildlife most of the time they seek food the way raccoons do in your trash or by hunting rodents you most likely donโt want your yard anyways like rats, mice, and moles who dig holes underneath your foundation.

They tried to explain that it is best to trap unwanted cats, and move them to another area. As well as them being a danger to wildlife as the older man had mentioned before. I explained to her the same thing I explained to the man. She claimed rescuers make the problem worse lol . I do find it extremely concerning We have licensed trappers and DNR officers in our community advocating for the โrelocationโ of stray colony cats even possibly for the ex*****on of them because they are a โnasty ass๏ฟผ nuisanceโ . I find it extremely concerning as a wildlife expert This person does not know about the vacuum effect or the fact that most rescuers spend endless hours doing unpaid work to reduce the over population of cats, or about the cruel treatment of animals๏ฟผ and how they didnโt ask to be where they are now. I couldโve sat there and explained all that and continued to argue back-and-forth, but I could sense that there was no point.
I would like to use this as an example of how misinformation can be extremely dangerous and harmful to cats. This is why some apartment buildings and businesses resort to relocating or euthanizing believing the problem will get better until its just the same or ten times worse, Many people harm cats because they believe these lies and donโt want to learn better , itโs easier to kill them or write them offโฆ..
Licensed Michigan, DNR officers and trappers should be held to a higher standard and should be REQUIRED to complete a TNR course that TNR trappers complete to be able to help the communities in a real way that makes an impact for the rest of their lives.
I donโt believe thereโs anything wrong with having a passion and finding a way to make money doing it, but this person clearly profits off of telling people to hire her to remove the unwanted cats from their property and dump them at an unknown location rather than allow someone like us to come out and do TNR/Rescue or help coordinate Tnr for free or Low cost .
Ridiculous. Disgusting. These people need to be ashamed theyโre lucky I chose to block their names out!!!
