Will's Eye Hospital in Philadelphia is offering free screenings for diabetic patients this weekend. Sign ups are available on the Will's Eye website.

Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia and other sites around the region will host free eye screenings for Diabetes Day.

April is Women's Eye Health and Safety Month. Several conditions can affect women more often than men:

Dry eye disease – This occurs when the eyes can’t produce enough tears or the tears are of poor quality. Women are more likely to develop this due to hormonal fluctuations, certain medications like oral contraceptives, and make-up use.

Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) – This serious eye disease slowly destroys central vision due to damage to the macula. Women are more susceptible because they tend to live longer.

Cataracts – Women are more likely than men to develop cataracts, a clouding of the eye's lens. This can lead to blurred vision and difficulty with daily activities.

Glaucoma – This group of eye diseases damages the optic nerve, causing vision loss. Women are at higher risk for angle-closure glaucoma, but there's no clear gender preference for open-angle glaucoma, the most common form.
