Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital will join healthcare facilities nationwide in celebrating National Volunteer Week, observed April 19–25, 2026. Established in 1974, the annual recognition honors the vital role volunteers play in patient care, hospitality, and administrative support. The week highlights the compassion and dedication of volunteers who contribute millions of service hours each year, strengthening both patient care and community connections.
As part of the celebration, the hospital will host its annual Volunteer Awards Banquet on Thursday, April 23, in the ER Classroom. The hospital will provide a catered Mexican dinner for the volunteers.
During the banquet, volunteers will be recognized for their years of service and the hours they have contributed. This year, special recognition will be given to Pearl Atkins, who will receive a 20-year service pin and an award for 5,000 volunteer hours, and Eula Bender, who will receive a 15-year pin and an award for 3,000 hours of service.
In 2025 alone, volunteers donated a total of 3,695.5 hours to the hospital. Since 1977, volunteers have contributed an impressive 256,201 hours. Hospital staff expressed deep appreciation for the individuals who have given their time over the years, helping build a lasting legacy of service.
Additional volunteers receiving year and hour pins this year include Pearl Atkins, Eula Bender, Karen Burt, Carol Gotcher, and Tina Salgado.
