Today on International Women’s Day, we celebrate women with disabilities who have shaped history and continue to inspire change today. Through advocacy, leadership, creativity, and courage, these women helped break barriers and expand what the world believes is possible.

These women and their stories remind us that disability is not a limitation on impact, leadership, or legacy. Their stories continue to inspire a more inclusive world for everyone.

Today, we are proud to celebrate Douglas C Roberts as he is recognized by the Sycamore Chamber of Commerce with the Clifford Danielson Outstanding Citizen Award.

As a longtime supporter of Opportunity House and a dedicated advocate for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, his commitment to our mission has made a meaningful impact on the people we serve.

During Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month, we are especially grateful for community leaders like Mr. Roberts who help raise awareness, build inclusion, and champion opportunities for individuals with disabilities.

Big news! 🎉

Opportunity House is honored to be a recipient of the 2026 Meta Data Center Community Action Grant.

This grant will help us build a STEAM learning lab with updated technology and hands-on curriculum from Project Lead the Way giving the individuals we serve the chance to explore new ideas, strengthen problem-solving skills, and build pathways toward future vocational opportunities.

🎉We’re thrilled to announce the 2026 Meta Data Center Community Action Grants recipients!

Through our Data Center Community Action Grants program, Meta provides funding for nonprofits and schools to support the long-term vitality of DeKalb County. We fund projects that address critical community needs by putting technology to use for community benefit, enabling people to build strong, sustainable communities and improving local science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM) education.

March is recognized in the state of Illinois as Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month. This month is a time to recognize and celebrate individuals with developmental disabilities as valued members of our community.

Developmental disabilities such as autism, Down syndrome, and cerebral palsy may affect learning, communication, or physical development, but they are only one part of a person’s story. This month is a time to celebrate abilities, raise awareness, and continue building a more inclusive community for everyone.

Opportunity House had an incredible time participating in the Court of Dreams with and the NIU Women’s Basketball team! 🏀

The Beautiful Lives Project brings individuals with disabilities together with local athletes to build skills, confidence, and community through sports. Yesterday, our clients had the chance to practice dribbling and shooting alongside NIU players, and most importantly, had a ton of fun!

We’re so thankful for partnerships that create moments like these.
