Dr. Shivan Patel was raised in southern California and trained in New York City before coming to south Georgia, but our area has become his home. He loves serving the Sylvester community as a primary care physician at Phoebe Worth Family Medicine, and he is proud to be part of the Phoebe Family. Griefshare is a grief recovery support group where you can find help and healing for the hurt of losing a loved one. Week 2 of Black History Month is here! Today, we’re highlighting another inspiring pioneer who helped transform the future of medicine. Born in LaGrange, Georgia, Dr. Louis Tompkins Wright became one of the most influential African American surgeons in U.S. history. After early practice in Atlanta, he went on to become the first Black surgeon for the New York Police Department, the first Black doctor at an integrated public hospital, and a groundbreaking medical researcher known for developing an intradermal smallpox injection.
