Join us this Saturday for a special community run/walk in support of Black Maternal Health Week 💜💙

Black maternal health remains a critical issue, with Black women continuing to face disproportionately high maternal mortality rates in the U.S. This event is about community, awareness, and support.

This will be a 2-mile community walk/run and everyone is welcome. Bring your family, bring the kids, bring the stroller, and come be part of something meaningful. Water and fruit will be provided after the run.

Let’s show up for community, conversation, and awareness.

💙

Tag a doula who deserves flowers. 💐
The one who answers texts at 2AM.
The one who holds hands in the hardest moments.
The one who reminds you to breathe.
The one who advocates when voices shake.
The one who protects the birth space.

Doulas are care.
Doulas are community.

In a system where Black women are too often dismissed, doulas show up with presence, knowledge, and protection.

Drop their @ below. Let’s give them their flowers loudly. 🌸 💜

The time is NOW to recommit ourselves to Black Maternal Health Justice! If you have received services from Sankofa Doula Collective, support Black Maternal Health Advocacy, or are a Black mama, father, or care giver impacted by the work we’ve done, we hope you will join us for this historic moment 💙

Join the Sankofa Reproductive Health & Healing Center, the City of Syracuse and Onondaga County to adopt April 11-17 as Black Maternal Health Week.
NOW is the time to recommit to better maternal health outcomes for all.
Transformative and sustainable improvements to Black maternal health are within our reach.
Solutions are found in the lived experiences and collective action of Black women and their families.
Black Maternal Health Week is our time every year to raise awareness and advance equity.

SIGN THE PETITION: bit.ly/UFHealthJustice! Two mothers named Cherise Doyley and Brianna Bennett were ambushed by doctors, attorneys, and a judge who held a virtual hearing to force them to have a court-ordered C-section against their will. The Florida hospitals that did this need to be held accountable.

Cherise and Brianna had the right to decide what happened to their bodies. But the hospitals did not care. They went to court — while they were in labor — to take that decision away from them. Both are Black women. This is not a coincidence. This is a pattern.

Join us with UltraViolet in calling on UF Health and Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare to stop forcing pregnant people to undergo C-sections against their will: bit.ly/UFHealthJustice

Rooted in Justice and Joy. 🌿✨

As we begin 2026, we are grounding this year’s work in the values that continue to shape and sustain Black maternal health advocacy, justice, joy, and collective care.

The 2026 Black Maternal Health Week ( ) will take place April 11–17, 2026, creating space for community connection, healing, and action in support of Black Mamas, birthing people, families, and communities.

We have exciting updates coming soon about this year’s week, and we look forward to sharing what’s ahead.

In the meantime, we invite you to explore our Black Maternal Health Week 2025 Impact Report , which highlights the impact made across communities, organizations, and partners who showed up, organized, and led throughout the week.

Decades of research have shown that round-the-clock fetal monitoring does not reliably predict fetal distress, and experts say it leads to many unnecessary surgeries. But it’s still used in nearly every birth in the U.S. because of business and legal concerns, a New York Times investigation found. https://nyti.ms/3WF7yLx

The impact that our AABC community members in their work never ceases to blow us away.
President of the NY State Chapter of AABC (NYSBCA) and founder of The Birthing Place, Myla Flores, had her Womb Bus featured in CBS News for its impact on families in the Bronx. 🚌🤰

The "Womb Bus" is a mobile wellness clinic that brings the services of the Birthing Place Foundation to under-represented communities in the Bronx, especially BIPOC families who experience significant systemic barriers to happy, healthy birth experiences. When the system is failing our families, the birth center community rises to the challenge with innovation and passion.

"I feel fortunate enough to kind of break that generational cycle of traumatic births," said one visitor of the Womb Bus.

A few weeks ago I had the pleasure and honor to represent my organization at the 2025 Convening.

I started the convening off learning about the incredible work and care being provided by the Feminist Center for Reproductive Liberation and ended my time cheering my doula client on via Facetime as she gloriously and quickly birthed her son into this world.

It is always a privilege to learn from and be encouraged by amazing Black women doing soul stirring, heart centered, reproductive/birth justice work all over the nation.

I needed this weekend to remind me who I’ve been, who I AM, and who I AM destined to be.

Sequoia Kemp, BIG RN, Future CommUNITY Midwife.

I can’t wait to attend and hopefully present at the and celebrate BMMA’s 10 year anniversary!
