Are you a sucker for a GOOD story with a HAPPY ending? 'Cause I know I sure am....So here we go. Bear with me. It's a long post, but worth the read.
Once upon a time, in mid- November, a kind woman showed up in our lobby with a couple of large bags of yarn. She said that she was trying to learn to knit or crochet but never quite got the hang of it. She had several skeins of yarn in the most vibrant of colors. Since she was no longer in need of them, she wanted to donate them to St. Camillus for arts and crafts. We gladly accepted the donation of yarn and were brainstorming on how to use it in one of our recreation programs. A few weeks later, as I was getting ready for the upcoming holidays, I would stop (maybe a little too frequently 🤣) at our local Fairmount Michaels store to get decorations and Christmas notions (a lot). I started a conversation with the lovely and super awesome cashier (who would like to remain anonymous). As we were chatting, she asked where I worked. I said St. Camillus. Her face brightened and she had a nostalgic look about her. She told me that her father was at St. Camillus and that she had fond memories of her time spent with him here and that he received good care. We chatted for a bit, and she told me that she always wanted to do something to give back to St. Camillus, but never knew what she could do. She was too busy to volunteer, but asked if there was anything she could do to directly benefit our patients and residents. I asked if she had any talents - and she said that she LOVED to knit and crochet, but didn't have any YARN!!! I couldn't believe it. I told her that I had oodles of yarn available - I would supply the yarn and she could knit, if she was interested. I left that day with smile on my face thinking about how fantastic our community is! A couple of days later, I was paged to the front desk telling me I had a visitor. Can you guess who!??! My angel cashier from Michaels!!! I gave her the yarn, and we talked about what size, shape and colors the residents liked the most. I explained that lap blankets were a big hit because they kept our friends warm without dragging them or getting them caught in the wheelchairs. We said our goodbyes. Admittedly, I got caught up in the holidays and almost forgot about my sweet new friend. ALMOST. Fast forward a few weeks, and on upon my return to work from my Christmas vacation yesterday, I found a bright red Michaels bag with a note that simply read: From you-know-who.
Inside the bags were the MOST BEAUTIFUL quilts.
I wanted to share this story with you to show the goodness in our community and the kindhearted individuals who make this world a better place. This story is just one example of how two individuals took the time to CARE. Plain and simple. And together, their kindness created something truly remarkable. So, thank you!
