It is with deep gratitude and a heavy heart that we honor the life and legacy of Chris Weiss, founder and first Program Director of ARISE & Ski.

Nearly 30 years ago, Chris helped build more than a program, he helped build a community. Through his passion for adaptive winter sports, his creativity as an instructor, and his unwavering belief that access to sport is a matter of dignity and equity, Chris opened the slopes to countless individuals who may not have otherwise had the opportunity to participate.

Chris believed that every turn on snow could be an act of confidence, freedom, and joy. His patience, precision, and commitment to teaching left a lasting impression on participants, families, volunteers, and colleagues alike. The impact of his work continues to be felt every season, every lesson, and every moment of connection on the mountain.

We are profoundly thankful for Chris’s vision, leadership, and heart. His legacy lives on through ARISE & Ski, through the opportunities it continues to create, and through the many lives he touched along the way.

Our thoughts are with his loved ones and with the entire ARISE & Ski community as we remember and honor a truly remarkable individual.

🌟 Celebrating Partnership & Purpose 🌟

We’re grateful to our partners at The Salvation Army Syracuse Area Services for recognizing the meaningful work being done through collaboration and shared commitment to community.

We also want to celebrate Debbie, a Job Coach with ARISE-Exceptional Family Resources, whose dedication and consistency make a real difference. Through her work supporting Community-based Pre-Vocational Services, Debbie helps individuals build confidence, develop workplace skills, and experience the value of contributing in real-world community settings.

These experiences support growth in responsibility, problem-solving, and task completion important foundations for future employment and independence.

Thank you to Salvation Army Syracuse for being a valued community partner, and thank you, Debbie, for the care, patience, and professionalism you bring to your work every day. Your impact matters.

Debbie, a job coach with ARISE-Exceptional Family Resources, has been volunteering at the Emergency Family Shelter since June. Each week, Debbie works side by side with a young man participating in Community-based Pre-Vocational Services. With Debbie’s guidance, this young man is gaining hands-on experience through tasks like stocking shelves and bagging items while building essential pre-employment skills.

Pre-Vocational Services focus on developing strong workplace habits, problem-solving, understanding the demands of the workplace, and completing tasks from start to finish. These community-based experiences help individuals feel more confident, capable, and prepared for future employment.

We appreciate organizations like this one that support individuals, creating meaningful opportunities to build skills and gain confidence, while giving back to the community.
