Supporting Rural Mental Health Education Through OARS

CNYAHEC’s Older Adult Rural Mental and Behavioral Healthcare Workforce Support Program (OARS) β€” in partnership with the New York State Association for Rural Health (NYSARH) and the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation β€” extends its appreciation to the Central Square and Westhill School Districts, who recently hosted OARS educational presentations for their students.

Through these sessions, students explored career pathways in mental and behavioral healthcare, learned about mental health prevalence and stigma reduction, and discovered how creative arts can serve as a therapeutic modality. The program also highlighted the unique challenges and opportunities faced by older adults in rural communities and encouraged students to engage with these populations through community connection and support.
