Create a Safe and Supportive Environment
Regarding family and friends, it’s critical to remember that our loved ones are going through this with us. Involving family members, including spouses and children, in discussions helps them understand the situation better and provides a support network for the patient. So, encourage open dialogue by creating a space where everyone feels safe to express their thoughts and emotions. This can be done by setting aside weekly family meetings, family therapy or involving you and your loved ones in local support group sessions.
Fact: According to the American Cancer Society, Black women are more likely to be diagnosed with breast cancer at a younger age and in more advanced stages compared to white women. This emphasizes the importance of early and open discussions.
