Happy Earth Day

With support from , , and ORCA, is empowering young people to create projects that make a real environmental impact.

From creating a ceramic bee drinking station that supports pollinators to building birdhouses, youth are learning how art, innovation, and sustainability can protect our environment, promote cleaner air, and build greater environmental awareness.

As a first step, our students will proudly display their pieces at the YESS Festival on May 17 at

And we’re just getting started, this summer, youth will also create a community mosaic through ceramic recycling, giving pottery new life instead of sending it to waste while creating connection and building community. We’ll also be calling on local artists to contribute to this community project as we continue building Parkland into a creative district—and because Arivva deserves to be seen, we need a sign that reflects the creativity growing here.

Thank you to for your generous art kit donations, and thank you to for supporting our students with healthy snacks.

Stay tuned for our upcoming summer camp dates for high school students!

This picture in one word: GRIT

From learning about grit through to learning about , this felt like a full circle moment. It reminded me why I care so deeply about building spaces like where opportunity can truly change lives.

People, not problems.

While Tacoma’s urban core is experiencing a period of significant growth, communities throughout unincorporated Pierce County continue to experience high rates of poverty, above average unemployment, and barriers to success.

Addressing these trends is more urgent for us than ever, because as we work to find efficient, effective solutions, words like “poverty,” “unemployment,” and “disconnection” can easily become measurements we track rather than experiences we strive to understand - and these are experiences real people face every day.

Why Are we Bringing Arivva to Pierce County?

We know that for too many, issues of inequality aren’t just problems to solve or barriers to overcome. They are circumstances that shape expectations, realities that put limits on life’s possibilities and shut down dreams - everyday experiences that can feel hopeless and inescapable.
