Every April for Autism Acceptance Month, Mary Bridge Children’s honors the experience of children with and encourages understanding and empathy among their families and friends.
Growing awareness and acceptance of autism has helped more families recognize traits and seek diagnosis. Plus, criteria for an autism diagnosis now reflects the range of ways autism can present, including “masking” behaviors that once allowed those with lower support needs to go unnoticed.
It’s also important to note that autism exists on a spectrum, meaning that no two individuals have the same experience with it.
