I just saw an advertisement for something called "Nightfood - a sleep-friendly ice cream". It has things like minerals and tryptophan they say will help you sleep while totally marking to your sweet tooth and cravings!
If you have a sweet tooth at night, instead of indulging, I invite you to see me for nutritional counceling to address the root cause that results in not having sweet cravings to indulge!

Even though this class is not directly related to food and nutrition, it provides an opportunity to heal the body, mind and spirit which are three pillars of my health philosophy - Integration of the Mind, Body, Essence and Food!

You can still sign up for Revealing Wholeness! The first class starts this week on Thursday and it is an experience you will be grateful you accepted. Don't let the science aspect prevent you - it is easy to understand and only enhances the spiritual principles. Don't let the spiritual nature prevent you - all beliefs are welcome.

Here is a new class I am offering in conjunction with Centers for Spiritual Living. You don't have to be a member or religious to attend. It is about YOU - your body, mind and spirit. One of the books utilized is by Lissa Rankin, M.D. who teaches how to use the mind to heal the body. Material from Dr Joe Dispenza on quantum physics is also included.

This class includes all aspects of my training and experience - integrating the body, mind, spirit for healing the body (I am also trained in Nutrition which isn't directly included).

While food and diet aren't directly involved in the class material, this class series provides a blueprint for CHANGING EATING HABITS AND PATTERNS

My approach to health is more than just food; it is more than taking supplements; it is more than following a popular eating plan. For me, nutrition is the Integration between the Mind, Body, Essence and Food. This might be a new approach and I want to explain it in small doses.

Right now, more than ever, having good health is imperative. While some things and recommendations are generally good for everyone, each person is unique and needs to create their own plan. I strongly believe that the answer and direction comes from within, not from an expert, guideline or scientific report.

So, follow the page, check back in regularly or whatever you're supposed to do on Facebook 🙃

This one many be a listel late for dinner tonight, but please try it tomorrow.

3. Double Sesame Broccoli Delight
Ingredients: 1 head broccoli, cut into florets (don’t forget to peel and slice the stem!)
¼ cup tahini
1 clove garlic, crushed
1 T sesame oil
1/8 cup red wine vinegar or lemon juice
1t chopped parsley
Sea salt to taste
Sesame seeds

Directions:
a. Steam broccoli in a saucepan with steamer inset with water beneath
b. Remove when bright green, drain and place in a bowl
c. Mix additional ingredient except sesame seeds in a small bowl with a whisk or blender
d. Drizzle tahini sauce over broccoli and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
e. Enjoy paired with lamb and cooked butternut squash

2. Twisted Citrus Beets
Ingredients: 3-4 beets, peeled and cut into large chunks (may include carrots and fennel if available
2 T extra virgin olive oil
Sea salt and pepper, thyme or ginger if desired
Mandarin oranges (canned or fresh if available)

Direction:
a. Preheat oven to 425F
b. Place cut beets in a Ziploc bag or bowl with the oil and seasoning. Shake to coat beets
c. Place beets on a baking tray lined with parchment paper in the oven and roast for about 20 minutes until tender.
d. Remove from oven and toss in bowl with oranges

May serve with braised chicken thighs seasoning with grated orange rinds, garlic, salt and pepper and steamed greens. Or with quinoa and navy beans cooked with the same spices.

Kicked-up Southwestern Asparagus Casserole

Ingredients:
1 bunch Asparagus
1 can black beans w/liquid
1 ½ cup frozen corn
2 diced Roma tomatoes
1 diced jalapeno
1-2 T chili powder
Sea salt to taste
1 cup grated cheese

Directions:
a. Pre-heat oven to 375F
b. Prepare the asparagus: Break of the bottom inedible portion of each stalk. Cook the asparagus in boiling water for 2 minutes. Remove and set in a cold-water bath for 2 minutes. Chop into bite-sized sections.
c. In a large bowl combine all ingredients and mix well.
d. Transfer to a casserole dish with lid.
e. Cook in oven for 20 minutes
f. Remove, serve in bowls with the following garnishes: sliced avocado, sour cream, black olives, chopped onion, chopped cilantro

You may serve this dish with cooked chicken or turkey and steamed greens or a salad; you may add 1-2 cups of diced poultry meat to the casserole; or serve it on its own for a vegetarian meal.

No matter what eating plan you are following for good health, vegetables are always included. Sometimes, it is hard to get enough. I am posting some recipes to motivate you to eat more veggies while you are at home and able to cook more often. The good thing is that no store has run out of vegetables, yet!!
