REALLY EXCITED about this collaboration with Source Yoga in North Tacoma. Making mindfulness practice accessible and affordable has always been a part of MPC's mission, and these sessions are offered freely, following the model established by Community Care Yoga. These classes at Source also extend opportunities for generosity to participants who wish to make a donation to Eloise’s Cooking Pot Food Bank - https://themadf.org/eloises-cooking-pot/ ...and so the benefits keep expanding outward! Join us 1st and 3rd Fridays, 6:30-7pm.

Community Care Mindfulness Class – Donation Based, with Allison Schuette

Fridays 6:30-7pm
March 20, April 3 & 17, May 1 & 5

Start or refresh your mindfulness practice. In these foundational sessions, experience lightly guided meditations with mindfulness teacher Allison Schuette of The Mindful Pause Center, to bring you out of rumination or worry and into the present moment. Discover your capacity to be with all that life offers, quiet and simply, moment by moment. No experience necessary.

Community Care Mindfulness takes as its inspiration the Community Care Yoga class (same Fridays from 5-6:15pm). While both sessions can be attended individually, they pair even better together!

As community classes, we are not charging—but requesting donations. Please make a small donation to the food bank, Eloise’s Cooking Pot, or bring a book for the little library.

Eloise’s Cooking Pot Food Bank provides quality food to the communities of East and South Tacoma, Washington. Ahndrea, our founder, was concerned about the children in these communities who were not eating on a regular basis due to their families experiencing economic hardship. Without government assistance, Ahndrea began delivering food to her tenants in this area. This is how the foundation for Eloise’s Cooking Pot Food Bank began. The food bank is named after Ahndrea’s grandmother Eloise. Eloise was a woman of humble means, but would generously share whatever food she had by providing a hot meal to anyone who was in need.

What if our beliefs about stress are all wrong? What if we can diminish the harm stress causes by understanding that the symptoms of stress are the body’s natural way of preparing us to act? Research shows that reframing our attitudes about stress actually changes our biological reality—the body...

Is stress always harmful? Research suggests that our beliefs about stress may matter more than stress itself. In this post, I explore health psychologist Kelly McGonigal’s research on the upside of stress and how mindfulness can help us shift our relationship to stress in practical, embodied ways.

Is stress always bad? Research by Kelly McGonigal suggests stress can benefit us. Learn how mindfulness helps reframe stress.

ADAPT, RECOVER, GROW: RESILIENCE THROUGH MINDFULNESS | Just as courage isn’t the absence of fear, resilience isn’t the absence of stress and adversity. Think of it instead as an inner reserve of strength and flexibility that we can develop in the midst of challenges. Join others in these 60-minute sessions to build this mental and emotional muscle through mindfulness. Great for beginners and those looking to strengthen their practice.

When mindfulness practice feels dull, flat, or stagnant, how we describe that experience matters. Our perspective on meditation can either close down possibility or open up space for transformation. Let’s explore how metaphor—especially images of dormancy and germination—can reframe our relationship to mindfulness practice.

When mindfulness practice feels flat or stagnant, metaphor can open new perspective. A reflection on dormancy, germination, and meditation.

Many people struggle with meditation because they believe their mindfulness practice should feel calm, inspiring, or peaceful. When meditation feels dull, disconnected, or imperfect, it’s easy to assume something is wrong. Perhaps imperfect meditation practice is not only normal, it’s deeply human.

A mindfulness reflection on imperfect meditation practice and learning to accept dull or disconnected moments with compassion.

IN PERSON SESSION | SUN DEC 21st, 4-6pm @ SOURCE YOGA

How are you relating to the darkness of winter? How would you like to be?

In a culture like ours that doesn't slow its demands to align with the season, darkness can present challenges. We can meet that challenge by taking time apart, in the company of others, to reflect on what's available to us in the darkness—and to prepare for the return of light.

Join me this Sunday in a collaboration with Source Yoga for the magic of winter solstice through movement, music, and meditation. Spots are limited and pre-registration through Source is required - https://bit.ly/4qdbbF7
