OLYMPIA — The Washington State Library (WSL), part of the Office of the Secretary of State, launched the Washington State Certification Portal early last month. The new online platform gives library cardholders across the state free access to professional certifications and workforce learning tools and was made available Oct. 1, 2025.

The portal is available to cardholders from the Washington State Library, King County Library System, Tacoma Public Library, Spokane Public Library, Whatcom County Library System, Bellingham Public Library, and San Juan Island Library, with more libraries joining soon.

Through the portal, library users can learn, practice, and certify in high-demand digital and technical skills, from Microsoft Office and digital literacy to advanced IT and cybersecurity. Patrons log in with their library cards to explore thousands of dollars’ worth of self-paced courses, practice tests, and industry-recognized credentials at no cost to the user. Complete program resources can be found on the Washington State Library’s webpage.

The program will provide additional benefit to local libraries. By connecting their Integrated Library Systems (ILS) to the statewide portal—similar to how LinkedIn Learning is offered—they can expand their offerings without adding new staff responsibilities. WSL manages the technical side and automation, while participating libraries keep the community connection and receive usage data that reflects their patrons’ participation.

“This initiative is a win-win for libraries and residents alike,” said Washington State Librarian Sara Jones. “The Washington State Certification Portal removes cost and access barriers, giving every Washingtonian with a library card the chance to build job-ready skills and earn credentials that open doors.”

Funded by the Washington State Legislature and the federal Library Services and Technology Act, the new portal supports WSL’s work to strengthen digital equity, workforce readiness, and lifelong learning across Washington.

How to Get Started

Log in using your library card from a participating library. If your library is not yet participating, or if you don’t have a library card, you can get a library card from the Washington State Library.*
Explore learning tools such as LinkedIn Learning, GMetrix, Northstar Digital Literacy, Cisco Networking Academy, and Microsoft Learn.
Complete self-paced courses, practice exams, and request free exam vouchers for eligible certifications.

🍨 Sweet Results from Sundaes for a Cause! 🍨

We’re thrilled to share that our residents and team members across all six programs came together for a Sundaes for a Cause fundraiser, raising 320 lbs of non-perishable food and $700 to support Eloise’s Cooking Pot!

Recently, we had the pleasure of hosting the LeadingAge Washington Elevate Seminar!

LeadingAge Washington’s ELEVATE Assisted Living Leadership Program provides an immersive in-person learning experience to equip both new and seasoned leaders with the specialized knowledge and refined skills needed to excel as exceptional leaders within the field of Assisted Living. We’re also SO PLEASED that we had three attendees (Kandi Camarena, Kate Day, and Vanessa Murphy) in this year’s program. Our HR Director, Diana Verrue, was also a key presenter!

Exciting Updates at Cascade Park Vista! ✨
We’re finally seeing the beautiful results of our ongoing renovations! New flooring, fresh paint, updated cabinetry, modern furniture, and completely re-done bathrooms are bringing new life to our community. Even more—new art and additional furniture—will be arriving in the coming weeks and months.

This has been a massive project, starting with the less glamorous but essential upgrades (a brand new main water line and rebuilt elevators) — and now, we’re moving into the fun part: color, art, and warmth!

It’s an exciting time at Cascade Park Vista, and we can’t wait to share the transformation with you all. 💛🏗️🎨

It’s not every day we receive such heartfelt recognition for one of our own.

Our resident Tim recently shared a powerful three-page letter honoring Sarah Rhedrick, our Employee of the Month at CPV. In his words, Sarah is “compassionate and caring, even with me, and I can be a tough character.” He described how nervous he felt before a recent appointment and how Sarah accompanied him, offering the steady support he needed to get through it.

He added that he’s never once heard her complain and believes “she’s going places.”

That sentiment is echoed by her teammates, who describe Sarah as consistently kind, professional, and quick to offer help when it’s needed most. She’s someone who brings warmth and calm to every situation, and her presence is deeply felt throughout our community.
