Hello, Rapture friends.

If I may, I'd like to share some big feelings. My goodness, am I glad it's now 2024. I don't know if it's because of the year we had with the fire incident, but I sense that 2023 was hard for a lot of you as well. I have a few thoughts on all of this *gestures vaguely*, with the big sigh I let out this morning upon waking up:

1) Maybe I'm being overdramatic. The Rapture team is safe. At least my family and I are safe. We've been safe this whole time. We are operating almost at the same capacity as before the fire. We have a beautiful new location that feels more like home than any others we've been. I get to snuggle with my littles as much as they'll let me, knowing there's close to a 100% chance we'll wake up safe tomorrow as well, without the threat of state violence. I'm not happy the fire happened, but I feel immense gratitude for the fact that this is what it is.

2) We're not the only ones who struggled this year, and the fact is that we would not be standing without you...we're all the more determined to give back. With the way our world is *gesturing vaguely again*, our mission to provide that incredibly satiating feeling of joy and safety in our bodies is more important than ever, and we can never take your support for granted. As we approach our 10 year anniversary, my heart is so full to recall how many of you have been with us this whole time. We'll make sure it's worth it and then some!

3) One of the biggest lessons I learned in 2023 about our work as massage therapists didn't come from my continuing education classes but from navigating my kindergarteners' neurodivergence and sensory processing differences, as well as my own. It's the understanding of how vital safe touch (along with movement, co-regulation, and a sense of autonomy) is to a developing nervous system, and realizing how many grown-ups have gone for so long without this support. Add to that the countless stressors and adverse experiences we face over and over again...over 10 years into my career I'm realizing truly how important this work is, how much I believe in it as a pathway to not just healthier bodies but a stronger sense of self. We can't stop the systemic causes of our collective trauma and pain, but we can absolutely support the body and brain in the healing processes via massage therapy, a quiet reminder at each session how deserving each individual is of joy, safety, and pleasure in our own bodies. No matter how much the world tries to convince us otherwise.

4) I'm so grateful to have connected with Karen, Rosie, June, and Jo because as different as we are as practitioners, we're unified in this mission. Through all the ups and downs, they're still here, determined as ever to create radical change through touch, and it really is such an honor to have this connection with them through Rapture. They each inspire me daily.

Thank you all again for trust, support, and love. It truly is such an honor. Wishing you all a most fulfilling and joyful 2024.

We've been hard at work prepping our new location! It's kind of a struggle though when you're a massage therapist who also likes to be creative though. The idea here was rapture brand/sunriseISH colors but all I see now is the dermis and epidermis

We have a new forever home! But this means goodbye, Stadium District. All appts in Oct are held at Elements of Sunshine (301 Puyallup Ave, Suite C Tacoma), and our new location opens Nov. 1st - here's the sappy story:

Rapture Massage started in 2014 with just myself in a tiny treatment room at Alliant Physical Therapy at North I and 2nd, and my schedule quickly filled up to the point where I had to turn folks away. Because I couldn't clone myself, I brought on another therapist...then another...then covid took us to Saravida in Hilltop which got sold to Tacoma Housing Authority. So at 3 months postpartum, I took the team back to Alliant but with our own 2 room suite at 205 North I St where we were able to grow to our current all star line up of LMTs - Karen, Jo, June, and Rosie (who's on a hiatus from massage starting the end of the month). I always envisioned the 5 of us as a 'best kept secret' mainstay of the Stadium District...and several weeks after the fire, I was still so sure we would return and things would go back to the way they 'should be', on my birthday no less. But of course, collateral damage occurs in sneaky, unpredictable ways from a fire like the one on August 3rd so after being told we could reopen, we again got shut down. Word is that the investigation is still ongoing, and it's now well into October. For the record, I've loved all of my time with Tim and Rhonda at Alliant, and appreciate all the hard work they've put in before and during this whole ordeal. I'm heartbroken for everything they've had to deal with it because of this incident, and for the fact we have to part ways.

I can't speak for the rest of the Rapture team, but I certainly feel grief I can't adequately put into words.

However, we've been blessed and all I feel right now is immense gratitude. I like to think it's because of the work we collectively put in that we've been rewarded with your support, and with opportunities like connecting with Andrea Sulusi LMT at Elements of Sunshine and her program to help BIPOC enter the massage profession. I'm also so incredibly optimistic and ecstatic about our beautiful new forever home in the newly revitalized historic South Tacoma Way Business District!

Through the rest of October, all appointments will continue to take place at Elements of Sunshine (301 Puyallup Ave Suite C). Then on November 1st, we open doors to our gorgeous, new permanent location at 5436B S Tacoma Way, Tacoma, WA 98409, right across the street from everyone's new favorite breakfast place, Howdy Bagel. As I signed the lease, I looked outside and the buzzing excitement of the neighborhood overtook the grief.

The team and I absolutely can not wait to share our new home with you. And to be perfectly honest, this time around with my youngest being almost 2 years old now and no longer a newborn, I have more energy to make this launch a little bigger than last time! A lot of love is being put into this place.

See you on the other side, Rapture friends! The future is looking bright (and not just because of climate change) and we're so thrilled to share with you.

We've begun the smoke remediation and clean up process, but we will be closed for the rest of August as this will take at least 1-2 weeks, and we'll need time to replace everything that needs to be replaced. The investigation by the fire department is also expected to take approximately two weeks.

Building inspections are scheduled for this week so we hope to know more by then. Online booking is currently disabled until we know for sure. We will update this website and our email list as soon as we know more. That said, as long as there are no structural damages, our current plan is to reopen September 5th.

Thank you all so much for your understanding and support! We're so blessed to be part of such a caring and nurturing community and look forward to giving back again when we reopen.

Hi, all. Due to an electrical fire next door (at 207 I St, formerly Jak's Pak Doggy Daycare) that began earlier this evening, Rapture is closed through Aug 13th, possibly longer. Thankfully, our staff is safe. Everyone left the facility as soon as smoke was detected. We will know more as the smoke clears, the extent of damage can't even be assessed yet at this time.

I will reach out to each client starting tomorrow but know that if you have an appointment between now and Aug 13th, it is canceled. We will post updates as we get them.

As a small business, this is a huge blow. Even closing for a week is really hard on us. But we need to make sure the space is safe and functional before we can return. We will share updates as we get them.

Thank you all for your continued support and patience as we navigate this. We love you and we absolutely love what we do, and know we're determined to return in stronger form than ever.
