🌿 “One of the most powerful things I witness in EMDR intensives is how layers of loss and betrayal can finally be named—and released.
In a past full day-long intensive session, we worked through decades of feeling ‘not enough’—the ache of being unchosen, the confusion of a parent who was both bully and best friend, the generational weight of low self-esteem and self-neglect. The client’s nervous system had learned to carry unworthiness as protection… until it didn’t have to anymore.

Healing doesn’t erase the past, but it can change how much power the past has over the present.

If you’ve ever felt trapped in old patterns or wondered why love and boundaries feel so hard to hold together, you’re not alone—and you’re not broken.

What’s one small way you’ve started choosing yourself lately? I’d love to hear in the comments. 💛

I am a woman well acquainted with grief.
She has sat beside me in the passenger seat on long night drives, pressed her cold hand into mine under restaurant tables, curled into the hollow of my chest when the house grew too quiet. She does not announce herself with fanfare anymore. She simply arrives, familiar as breath.
I used to fight her—bargain, rage, outrun, outwork, out-perform. I thought if I could be busy enough, bright enough, useful enough, she would grow bored and leave. She never did. She only waited, patient as stone, until the performance ended and the lights came up on what was really there.
What I’ve learned, slowly and with many bruises, is this:
Grief is not the opposite of love.
Grief is love with nowhere left to go.
It is the weight of carry-on luggage you never get to unpack. It is the phantom limb that still aches in weather only the two of you remember. It is the way certain songs, certain streets, certain smells become time machines with no return ticket.
And yet—
I have also learned she can sit beside tenderness.
She can share the table with laughter that comes easier now.
She can rest her head on the same pillow as gratitude, two old friends who have finally stopped arguing about who gets to stay.
So if you are carrying her today, too,
know that you are not broken for feeling her.
You are human for feeling her.
You are still here, still loving, still breathing through the press of her.
And that is no small thing.
You are allowed to miss them and still live.
You are allowed to ache and still smile at something small.
You are allowed to be both/and, not either/or.
Grief and I have walked together long enough now that I no longer flinch when she reaches for my hand.
I simply take it.
We keep walking.
Side by side.
Step after step.
Still here.
If you’re walking with her too—
I see you.
I’m right here beside you.
We’ll keep going. Together when we can, alone when we must.
But never truly alone.

🌲💔 Deepest Care for Our Tahoe/Sierra Family in This Heartbreaking Time
Tonight, my thoughts and heart are fully with everyone enduring the unimaginable aftermath of the Castle Peak avalanche:
• The first responders and SAR teams who braved ferocious blizzard conditions, extreme risks, and personal heartbreak (including losing a loved one among the victims) to reach survivors and recover those lost—your bravery and sacrifice leave me in awe, and I know the emotional cost is immense.
• The survivors carrying shock, grief, and the weight of what happened—may you find moments of gentleness amid the storm inside and out.
• The families of the eight who didn’t make it home (with one still missing and presumed gone)—your pain is profound beyond words; you are wrapped in love from this community.
• The friends, colleagues, and loved ones of all involved—holding your own sorrow while supporting others is its own quiet heroism.
I’ve seen how some online comments add extra hurt right now—questioning choices or hindsight judgments when grief is so fresh. Those words can feel like salt in an open wound, and it’s okay to step away, protect your peace, or feel protective of those suffering.
As your local neighbor in the Tahoe/Truckee area, a trauma therapist specializing in EMDR, and someone who knows how deeply this tragedy touches our mountain community—I’m here. During this unimaginable time, I’m happy to offer a no-charge chat (or more) to anyone affected—whether you’re directly connected, feeling vicarious trauma, overwhelmed by the news, or just need a safe space to breathe and be heard. No expectations, no strings—just compassionate listening when you’re ready. Virtual, confidential, and from the heart.

For immediate crisis support: Call or text 988 (24/7), or reach Nevada County Behavioral Health at (530) 265-5811.
You are seen, you are held, and you matter. We heal together, even in the darkest moments. Sending you all the warmth, strength, and quiet care our Sierra home can give. 💙
DM me or message the page whenever it feels right—no charge, no pressure. We’ve got each other.

🌲 In the wake of the heartbreaking Castle Peak avalanche, I’ve seen a lot of comments online asking “Why did they go out there?” or questioning choices in such stormy conditions.
It’s natural to seek understanding after tragedy, but these kinds of questions can unintentionally shift into blame or shaming—making already grieving families, survivors, guides’ colleagues, first responders, and our community feel even more isolated or judged in their pain.
No one sets out expecting disaster. Backcountry skiing, guiding, and SAR work carry inherent risks that professionals train rigorously to manage—but nature can be unpredictable and unforgiving. Blaming victims (or those who loved them) doesn’t honor the loss or help healing; it often adds secondary trauma to people already carrying so much.
If you’re feeling overwhelmed by the news, anger, grief, guilt, or even confusion about these comments—reach out. As a local trauma therapist using EMDR, I’m here to help process whatever’s coming up, without judgment. You’re not alone in this.
For immediate support: Call/text 988.
Holding our Tahoe/Sierra community close tonight. 💙

💔 Heartbroken for our Lake Tahoe / Truckee / Sierra community
The devastating avalanche near Castle Peak on February 17 has shaken us all—8 lives lost, one still missing, survivors and families in profound grief, and so many first responders, guides, friends, and neighbors carrying heavy hearts through this storm. As a local licensed psychotherapist specializing in EMDR and trauma recovery right here in the Tahoe/Truckee area, this hits close to home. Our mountain community is tight-knit, and tragedies like this ripple far beyond those directly involved—touching anyone who loves these slopes, knows someone in guiding or SAR, or simply feels the weight of loss in our backyard.
If the news, memories, survivor guilt, anxiety, intrusive thoughts, or overwhelming grief are hitting you hard—whether right now or creeping in days/weeks/months later—you’re not alone, and it’s okay to reach out. Trauma can feel delayed or unexpected, but even when effects surface later, we can process it effectively using gentle, evidence-based approaches like EMDR to help the nervous system find safety and integration again.
I’m here offering compassionate, confidential support—virtual sessions available for Tahoe locals and beyond. No pressure, no judgment—just a safe space when you’re ready.

For immediate help:
• Call or text 988 (Su***de & Crisis Lifeline—24/7)
• Nevada County Behavioral Health: (530) 265-5811
• If in crisis, contact local emergency services or go to the nearest ER
Thinking of the families, the Blackbird Mountain Guides team, SAR volunteers, survivors, and everyone grieving tonight. Holding space for healing in our beautiful, resilient Sierra community. 💙

🌿 Did you know that unprocessed emotions and trauma can actually cause real physical pain and biological issues in your body? 🌿
Science shows us the powerful mind-body connection: Chronic stress, suppressed anger, anxiety, or past trauma can manifest as headaches, back pain, digestive problems, high blood pressure, and even weakened immunity. Your body “keeps the score” – holding onto emotional wounds that turn into physical ones if left unaddressed.
The good news? Healing the emotional root can bring profound relief to both mind and body.
Through EMDR Therapy, we gently process and release these stored emotions, helping you break free from pain and step into greater freedom and peace.
