Abiku children remind us that not every soul comes to stay, but every soul comes with purpose.

Even in grief, a mother’s love nourishes what remains: memory, lineage, spirit.

At Fertile Ground Midwifery, we honor these sacred journeys and hold families with reverence and care.

We remember Abiku children, those who arrive between worlds, and the families who carry them forever. 🤍

Their lives...no matter how brief, leave roots behind.

Earlier this month, Governor Ron DeSantis, First Lady Casey DeSantis, and State Surgeon General Dr. Joseph Ladapo announced new food safety results as part of the Healthy Florida First initiative. Certified lab results detected glyphosate, a widely used agricultural pesticide, in several bread products.

The goal

The future of medicine isn’t found in a pill bottle. It’s found in what you put on your plate, how you move your body, the quality of your sleep, and your ability to manage stress.

It’s about understanding that your body is a self-healing, self-regulating organism when you give it what it needs and remove what harms it.

Most chronic diseases — heart disease, diabetes, autoimmune conditions, even dementia — are not inevitable consequences of aging. They’re consequences of the toxic food system, environmental exposures, chronic stress, and a medical system that waits until you’re sick to intervene.

But your body wants to be healthy. When you remove the bad stuff and give it the good stuff, healing happens naturally.

That’s not “alternative medicine.” That’s just good medicine. The future Edison envisioned is here. And YOU have the power to create it for yourself, starting today. Share this with someone you love. ♥️

This gathering will ground us in the history of Black midwives, name the current challenges facing midwifery today, and move us toward collective action. 🤎

Together SBJN, NBMA and Sistersong will break down what a resolution or proclamation is, why it matters, and the step-by-step process for getting one passed in your city or state in support of Black midwifery and birth justice.

We will learn, share and build power ✊🏾 whether you’re a midwife, birthworker, advocate, or community member ready to support birth justice.

It's 2020, I'm 🤏🏾 close to licensure and my very 1st doula client from highschool (not shown) has a grandchild on the way. Those twins became my godchildren (godsisters by default) 🙄.

My sister called me when she was in labor, and I drove across the border and did all the intrapartum things. We were at 4cm and "cooking with crisco" (ok coconut oil) lol In other words, she was headed quickly into active labor, as a seasoned Mama.

My assessment, observation (and potential management), was confirmed by the hospital upon her arrival. Georgia does not have Midwifery regulation and me not being licensed at the time was just one (really the only) reason for a hospital birth. Cause what would the granny midwife do? It's by design folks. Georgia scored an F for maternal health by the way. I would just cross the border and deliver with a LICENSED Florida Midwife if I were a Georgian in this day and age.

I digress.

Just as I do for all clients, regardless of birth outcome, I offer postpartum care and I had to go check on my little sis.

It was a beautiful surprise to see the crew today, although under difficult circumstances, we found a moment of joy recreating this memory that popped up on my timeline.
