Thank you, Congressman Greg Steube, (FL-17th) for introducing the FL/NC/SC joint letter to Dr. Oz into the record at the Ways & Means Committee Hearing on hospice fraud and abuse on April 21. The gist of the letter is those states with robust regulatory systems and oversight (like Florida) are NOT experiencing hospice fraud and abuse and hospice providers in those states should not be subjected to the same onerous corrective measures as the states where fraud and abuse is occurring. It is completely appropriate for CMS to use its authority for highly focused enforcement by investigating the specific companies displaying the warning signs of fraud and abuse.

April 25 celebrates License Plate Day because this day in 1901 was when the first license plate was issued in the US. This started a trend that spread across the whole country, making the roads safer for everyone. (National Today, 2022)

Since its introduction in the summer of 2004, the Hospice Specialty License Plate has raised millions of dollars. Every dollar is dedicated to expanding and enriching hospice care across Florida. 🦋🧡

Today is National Healthcare Decisions Day. Here are three tips starting the conversation about Advanced Care Planning.

Tips for talking about Advanced Care Planning:
1) Have the Conversation Early - Don’t wait till a crisis occurs before thinking about end-of-life plans. These conversations are best started early, before the stress and confusion of a medical event occur.

2) Involve Your Doctor and Local Hospice – Hospice programs are professionals at having end-of-life discussions, and most likely there will be a hospice representative located in your local hospital.

3) Get it in Writing – There are many tools that can be used for Advanced Care Planning. Each does something a little different, so consider filling out a combination to ensure your wishes are completely understood.
