At the Annual Medicaid Coalition Strategic Policy Planning conference this week, FHA President and CEO Mary Mayhew joined Paul Salles, Justin Senior and Erica Murray for a panel moderated by Matt Salo to discuss the impact of the OBBBA on Medicaid funding and the importance of supplemental payment programs under Medicaid, specifically directed payment programs. With leaders from Florida, Louisiana and California, this panel offered a robust overview of how states are focusing their advocacy efforts to preserve health care access in their respective communities.

On Monday, FHA President and CEO Mary Mayhew traveled to Miami to tour Jackson Health System’s brand-new emergency room. This new, state-of-the-art facility will significantly expand the hospital’s ER footprint, offer separate areas for women and children and expedite immediate consultation with physicians with a vision to dramatically restructure the patient experience in the ER. : After 43 days of a government shutdown, Congress’ stopgap not only reopened the government, but it also extended vital health care programs.

“The challenge now is to avoid additional disruptions to hospital planning and care delivery by extending the rural hospital designations for a longer term, providing long-term relief from Medicaid DSH cuts, and making hospital-at-home and telehealth permanent,” said Mary Mayhew in her December 2025 South Florida Hospital News and Healthcare Report column.
