FHA’s 2026 Day Two began with breakfast and a legislative briefing, where lawmakers, including Reps. Alex Andrade, Representative Hillary Cassel, Sam Garrison, Representative Gallop Franklin II and Josie Tomkow for State Senate shared insights on current legislative policies and their vision for strengthening care delivery across Florida communities.

Today, hospital leaders will meet with lawmakers and their teams to discuss policies and investments that can advance high-quality care for all Floridians!

FHA Board of Trustees Chair, Dr. Randy Haffner, Group President and CEO of Florida and Clinical, welcomed this year’s attendees with inspiring remarks that set the tone for tomorrow’s Capitol visits.

We were honored for Senator Jim Boyd, a friend and champion of Florida’s hospitals for many years, to address our members.

FHA’s 2026 are officially underway!

FHA’s Board of Trustees welcomed Florida Agency for Health Care Administration Secretary Shevaun Harris and Florida Department of Children and Families Deputy Assistant Secretary Amanda VanLaningham, who shared insights on their agencies’ work and opportunities to partner with Florida hospitals to strengthen care for patients and communities statewide.

We’re grateful for their leadership and collaboration.

Florida’s hospitals are preparing now to meet the demand for health care services tomorrow as the state’s population grows and ages. Florida’s more than 4.5 million residents age 65+ are projected to grow to 6.7 million by 2036.

Yesterday, FHA President and CEO Mary C. Mayhew spoke on a panel at the Florida Chamber of Commerce’s Legislative Fly‑In, where she emphasized the importance of Congress extending the enhanced premium tax credits and detailed the implications for Florida families and the health care system if these credits are allowed to expire. The panel, "Making Sense of How Federal Healthcare Decisions Will Impact Your Business", was moderated by Availity CEO Russ Thomas and also included insights from Florida Association of Health Plans CEO Brittney Hunt.

Florida has landed $209 million to strengthen rural hospitals statewide through the federal government’s Rural Health Transformation Program.

FHA applauds the U.S. House of Representatives for passing an extension of the enhanced premium tax credits. Recently, FHA President and CEO Mary Mayhew spoke with WJXT4 The Local Station / News4JAX about the expiration of enhanced ACA subsidies and what it means for Floridians at risk of losing coverage and for hospitals standing in the gap to provide care.

“With the expiration of the enhanced assistance, we’re concerned that nearly one million Floridians could lose access to really good health insurance coverage,” Mayhew said.
