You Asked. We Listened. đâ¨
We are officially less than one month away from this yearâs TMH Golden Gala on April 23, featuring Grammy-nominated Teddy Swims!
This has been one of our most anticipated Galas to date. Because of the high demand, weâve received many requests to accommodate guests who aren't looking to purchase an entire table of eight. So, weâre doing something special this year: we are offering a limited number of half tables (seating for 4) and couplesâ packages (seating for 2).
These tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis and will go quickly. They include the full Golden Gala experience: cocktails, a gourmet meal, and a private Teddy Swims concertâall while making a difference in mental health services right here in Tallahassee.
Some moments are big. Others are quiet but just as powerful.

Some walks you will never forget.
For William Reid, this one meant everything.
Weeks earlier, William thought he was going in for a routine checkup. Instead, tests revealed multiple heart blockages, including one that was 95% blocked (a widow maker), and he suddenly found himself facing open-heart surgery.
âI was in shock,â William recalls. âWhen they told me, you could see it in their eyesâit was serious. Really serious.â
At TMH, William and his wife, LaJean, found more than advanced cardiac care, they found a team that lifted them up every step of the way, a true lifeline for the Reids.
During recovery, William says the nurses made all the difference.
âThey kept me going,â he shared. âThe care here has been wonderful.â
When it was time for William to leave the hospital, the Cardiac Progressive Care team celebrated him with an Open-heart Victory Walk, a tradition where clinicians line the halls, cheering patients on as they take those first steps toward home. William wore his open-heart survivor shirt and carried a recovery pillow covered with handwritten messages from the team who had supported him.
This tradition started with a volunteer who had gone through open-heart surgery himself. He began sharing open-heart survivor shirts with patients who needed encouragement, and the idea quickly grew. Today, thanks to the TMH Foundation, moments like this continue, reminding heart patients theyâre supported every step of the way.
âThis moment matters,â William says. âAnd it was made possible by people like you.â
Thanks to donors, TMH can provide not only life-saving treatment, but encouragement and compassion every step of the way. Your support strengthens our Heart & Vascular program with advanced technology, specialized equipment and training for highly skilled care teams, helping TMH earn recognition as one of the Top 50 Cardiovascular Hospitals in the nation.
Because of that commitment, patients like William donât just survive, they thrive.

Spring is a particularly special time of year in the Healing Garden at the Tallahassee Memorial Cancer Center. đ¸
Right now, the flowers are blooming, the breeze is softly moving through the wind chimes, and the fountain catches the sunlight as the water gently flows. Itâs peaceful in a way thatâs hard to describe until you sit there for yourself.
Over the years, this garden has quietly become a place where people take a moment to breathe. Patients and families sit together. Caregivers pause between long days. Sometimes itâs a place to talk, and sometimes itâs simply a place to be still and process whatâs happening. Other times, itâs a place to step away for a moment and just rest.
The Healing Garden was made possible through the generosity of our community and continues to be lovingly cared for by volunteers from the Tallahassee Garden Club. Their hands and hearts help keep this space blooming for everyone who needs it, and we are deeply grateful to all of the people who have helped make this very special place possible.
If youâve ever spent time here, you know how meaningful it can be. And if you havenât, we hope youâll visit if you are at the Cancer Center and take a quiet moment in the garden. đż

March is National Nutrition Month, and we want to share the story of a TMH colleague who saw a need and decided to do something about it.
As a clinical dietitian, Cierra Mathis spends her days helping patients manage their health through nutrition. But over time, she noticed a deeper challenge. Some patients werenât just struggling with what to eat; they were struggling to have food at all.
Cierra didnât wait for someone else to step in. She started a food drive on her own, putting together bags of food for patients who screened positive for food insecurity. She collected, sorted and delivered the bags herself. What started as one personâs effort has grown into a hospital-wide initiative, supported by TMH colleagues and the TMH Foundation, all with the goal of reaching more patients with something essential: nourishment.
For many patients, this is about more than just food. Itâs about being seen, listened to and cared for as a whole person. Cierra shared the story of one patient who was brought to tears when she received a bag. The tears werenât just about the food; they were about finally feeling understood and cared for.
You can help make a difference, too. A gift of $15 provides a bag of nutritious food for a patient, and every dollar you give will be matched by the TMH Foundation up to $2,500.
Give today at TMH.ORG/Nourish
Together, we can make sure our patients are nourished in more ways than one. đ

A huge thank you to the incredible volunteers from Experience Church for spending their Saturday with the TMH Foundation, packing Rikki SuperPups and helping get them into the hands of our youngest patients. đśâ¨
From kids to adults, everyone jumped in with smiles, laughter and a whole lot of heart.
This was Experience Churchâs third time supporting SuperPups, and we are so grateful for your continued commitment. Weâre also so inspired that you were out making a difference at 17 other nonprofits across our community that same day!
Thank you for showing up, serving so generously and being such an important part of our community. đ

Sometimes life sidelines you in ways you never expect. What matters most is what you do next; Jacob and Alexis taught us that. đ
Recently, we had the amazing opportunity to meet the Mayfield family (David, Rebekah, Jacob and Alexis) and hear the inspiring story of siblings Jacob and Alexis, two teenage athletes whose lives took an unexpected turn.
Over the past year, both have faced serious health challenges. Jacob was diagnosed with Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome, a congenital heart condition that caused dangerously fast heart rhythms and ultimately required a heart ablation. Alexis was diagnosed with Miserable Malalignment Syndrome, a painful condition in which her knees and feet were misaligned, causing severe knee pain. Her treatment required major surgery to realign both femurs.
For two teens who love sports, Jacob played tennis, and Alexis ran track and cross country, being sidelined wasnât easy. But instead of letting their setbacks define them, they found another way to compete⌠by helping others.
During their recovery, Jacob and Alexis created a nonprofit called Answers Through Athletes, driven by a simple but powerful goal: helping other young athletes find answers to unexplained health issues faster than they did.
âWe couldnât participate in sports, but we still wanted to participate in some way,â they shared.
Their first big initiative? A six-month bike ride fundraiser where sponsors pledged donations for every mile they rode during recovery. Through this effort, they raised funds for several organizations, including the TMH Foundation, with a special goal in mind: supporting pediatric services so that one day, children facing diagnoses like theirs can receive care right here at home. TMH has always been like home and community for the Mayfield family, both Jacob and Alexis were born here, and their father, David, serves as our Nuclear Medicine Manager.
âWe wanted to raise money so other kids donât have to leave town to find the hope they need,â they said.
Today, even while continuing their own recovery journeys, Jacob and Alexis are volunteering at races, helping community events and building connections, proving that the heart of an athlete isnât just about competing. Sometimes itâs about lifting others up.
Weâre incredibly proud of Jacob and Alexis. And as a small thank-you, we even helped them learn a new, old life skill⌠the art of handwriting a check. đ
đ đ On March 25, we're celebrating something very special, Dr. Charles B. Namâs 100th birthday and the remarkable life behind it. Will you join us?
From serving in World War II to spending more than three decades teaching sociology at Florida State University, Dr. Nam has devoted his life to understanding people, communities and health. His passion for improving lives led him to create the Charles B. Nam Endowment for Heart and Vascular Services at TMH, which has supported advanced training, technology and cardiac care for patients in our community for more than 20 years.
For Dr. Nam, giving has always been simple.
âI see it as paying back what I received,â he once shared.
As he prepares to celebrate this milestone with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, we invite you to be a part of honoring his extraordinary legacy.
đ Visit: tmh.care/DrNam and make a birthday gift to the Charles B. Nam Endowment to help continue the life-saving care Dr. Nam has dedicated his life to. While youâre there, be sure to leave a birthday message. Weâll include it in the card from the TMH Foundation.
Together, we can celebrate 100 years of impact and help ensure Dr. Namâs generosity continues to strengthen heart and vascular care for generations to come.
