It’s that time of year again! This semester on April 12th, we will be hosting the 11th annual BookIt! 5k at FSU! The Book It! 5K is a service initiative through the Honors Medical Scholars Society via the FSU College of Medicine founded in 2014. Our mission is to contribute to improving child literacy rates in rural communities both locally and internationally. To do this, BookIt! focuses on providing educational materials in the form of children’s books to communities in need of these resources. Follow us if you’d like to get more information about registration this year and support our cause!

Hello Runners,

We are sad to announce that the 7th Annual Book It! 5K has been officially cancelled. We were looking forward to seeing you on race day, but in the interest of public health and safety during the current pandemic, we will no longer be holding the event this Spring. We may be rescheduling the race during either the upcoming Fall or next Spring, so please be on the lookout for updates from us in the near future as we make our decision.

For those of you who have already purchased tickets for the race, we will be giving you a refund if you would like one. If you do not ask for a refund, all of the money from the ticket sales will still go towards our cause. As a reminder, all proceeds from this event go directly towards buying books for children in impoverished communities.

If you would like a refund, please email us directly. If you would like your ticket money to be used as a donation and would like to participate in a future race, you will not be required to purchase an additional ticket in said future race. Please reach out to us if you have any further questions!

We urge everyone to follow proper protocols and official medical advice regarding the Coronavirus at this time and in the future. We hope that all of you remain safe and healthy during this uncertain time.

Thank you for all of your support. We look forward to seeing you at a future race!

Sincerely,
The 7th Annual Book It! 5K Team

Every child deserves an education.

The Book It! 5K was founded on the belief that every child deserves an education and the chance to develop their potential, no matter where they live. All proceeds from every race we hold directly benefit the Florida State University College of Medicine and the strides it has taken in the rural village of Los Cedros, Nicaragua. We strive to foster a love for reading and education in young minds by providing the children there with books that they would otherwise not have any access to. Our long-term goal is to empower kids in the rural corners of the world to develop creative thought and critical thinking skills so that they can take a step toward ending cyclic patterns of poverty and pursue bright futures.
