Today we’re highlighting Desiree Smith, Activity Director at Avante at Ormond Beach. Desiree started coming to the facility at the young age of 8 with her siblings and mother, who worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant. Her unique connection to the facility and witness to her mother’s impact on residents inspired her to pursue a career in long term care, first as a CNA, and now as an Activity Director. Desiree creates events that bring joy to residents, their families and staff and enhances the lives of those around her. Thank you for all that you do, Desiree.

Meet Rosie Pingel, Activity Director at Orange City Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. It's National Activities Professional Day, so a great time to honor again Shedena Alexander, Director of Recreation at AstonHealth Island Lake Center, our 2025 Life Enrichment Award recipient! Shedena has spent more than 30 years working in long term care, starting her journey as a CNA before her creativity and passion led her to pursue the activities certification.
