Important Update Regarding ALS Services in Our Community
TL; DR: The Lehighton Ambulance split ALS truck in Tamaqua is ending on May 9th, 2026 — Tamaqua Ambulance will be launching our own ALS service on June 1st pending PA DOH approval, with Lehighton Ambulance continuing to provide ALS coverage during that time frame, just not as a split truck. There will still be 24/7 BLS 911 coverage for our communities from our organization as there always has been.

Tamaqua Community Ambulance Association would like to share an important update regarding Advanced Life Support (ALS) services in our area.
Effective May 9th, 2026, the current ALS unit operating in partnership with Lehighton Ambulance will be discontinued. This was requested by our organization.
Beginning June 1, 2026, pending ALS licensure scheduled in early May, Tamaqua Ambulance will be launching our own independent ALS service, allowing us to continue providing the same high level of advanced care our community depends on—right here at home.
We are already well underway preparing for this transition. We have begun securing all necessary equipment, medications, and resources to ensure a smooth and seamless start.
This decision was made after extensive review of call data, system performance, and long-term sustainability. Our goal is simple:
• Keep high-quality ALS care local
• Continue consistent responses to our community
• Strengthen service to our community
This ALS unit will be dedicated strictly to 911 emergency response, meaning:
• No non-emergency transports
• No staging outside of our primary area unless requested through SC911/PSAP
• Focused, local response for the residents we serve
We also want to emphasize that this transition is being made in an amicable and professional manner, with continued cooperation between agencies to ensure the best possible coverage for our region, this includes mutual aid agreements with surrounding agencies.
This is an ALS ambulance in your backyard—built to serve you.
We appreciate your continued trust and support as we move forward with this next step in strengthening emergency medical services in our region.
