Join us for an afternoon of sacred movement, deep embodiment, and radical joy. Twerking Through the Misogyny is more than an event — it’s a space of remembrance, resistance, and reclamation.
This gathering invites us to move through the heavy layers of misogyny and body-based oppression, using dance as a form of collective healing. We honor the African diasporic roots of twerking, a movement tradition grounded in Black cultural expression, resistance, and joy. While twerking has been widely misunderstood and appropriated, it remains a powerful form of embodied liberation — one we approach here with deep respect, reverence, and cultural acknowledgment.
This is a no-performance, no-judgment space. All expressions are welcome. Together, we move not for spectacle, but for sovereignty — reconnecting with the wisdom of the body, ancestral rhythm, and the pulse of collective liberation.
📌 Twerking: A Cultural Context
Twerking is rooted in West African traditional dance forms, particularly dances that involve hip isolation and rhythmic movement. It evolved in the African diaspora — especially in New Orleans bounce music — and has deep cultural significance within Black communities. In the U.S., it's tied to Black Southern culture and has historically been hypersexualized, criticized, and then later commodified by mainstream (often white) pop culture without proper recognition of its origins.
✨ About This Space
This is a space of cultural respect, trauma-informed care, and embodied liberation. We acknowledge the long history of cultural erasure, especially within wellness and dance spaces, and we’re committed to holding this container in a way that is inclusive, anti-racist, and honoring of the Black roots of twerking.
✨Schedule:
2:00 PM – Twerk Techniques: Transformative Wellness with Kim + Jai Buddhi ✨ ✨will explore hip-focused movement practices rooted in both modern somatic tools and the cultural lineage of twerking. This will be a space to awaken the hips, shed shame, and reconnect with sensual movement as a form of healing and power. We honor the influence of Black culture and remain in gratitude to the communities that carry this wisdom.
2:30 PM – DJ Krystal Fey ✨ ✨ will take us deeper into the dance floor with a soul-forward set designed to activate joy, release, and raw presence.
3:30 PM – DJ Indigo ✨ ✨ continues the journey, guiding us through sonic waves that invite full-body freedom and intuitive expression.
4:30 PM – We close in circle. A space to integrate, share, witness, and honor what’s been stirred, released, and reclaimed.
✨This is a no judgment, no expectation, no perfection space. Bring your softness, your rage, your beauty, your mess. Let your body speak the truth of what it’s carried and what it’s ready to let go.
Let's dismantle the wires of domination — the tangled forces of patriarchy, white supremacy, capitalism, and control — woven through our bodies and histories, and lay them down through dance.
Together, we will pierce through the misogyny + forces that aim to silence and make small, and dance our way into new worlds — ones rooted in love, liberation, and the sacred remembering of who we truly are.
🫶All bodies welcome. No one turned away. Come as you are. Leave a little lighter.
