When we say, “That’s just how I am,” we could be signaling that we’re unwilling to reflect on our behaviors or work on becoming better versions of ourselves. It can shut down meaningful conversations or avoid taking responsibility.

💡 What’s more helpful: We all have natural tendencies, but we’re also capable of growth. A willingness to evolve isn’t just powerful—it’s attractive. It shows courage, self-awareness, and a commitment to improving our relationships.

✨ Growth Mindset Shift: Instead of “That’s just how I am,” try asking:

• “Why am I like this?”
• “How does this impact others?”
• “Is there a part of me that wants to grow in this area?”

Labeling our emotions helps us to understand ourselves and others better. Plus it allows us to address problems more effectively. Next time you have an intense emotion, take a moment and try naming it. You might find something deeper than you expect.
