Time to repost my article for the holidays! As hard as it is to limit or completely eliminate sugars, your body will benefit greatly from this toxin.
"It's a holiday and I can eat what I want!"
So, let's first start off our 1st workday of the week giving thanks to the ones who have served our country and have given the ultimate sacrifice. Without these truly brave souls, yesterday and quite frankly everyday we live in freedom would not be possible!
Ok, down to the meaning of the quote above from someone who will remain unnamed! haha
Today's focus is on the major culprit, in my opinion as a Health Coach, of obesity and explosion of type 2 diabetes in the United States. Fortunately there are ways to avoid becoming yet another victim to this horrendous and life altering disease. The biggest change is REDUCE or cut out most simple sugars that you eat on a daily basis!! Our body needs a small amount of glucose to perform daily that should be derived from complex carbs (Legumes, seeds, lentils, etc) vs the unnecessary simple carbs such as most sugar added in drinks and unfortunately many foods. Without getting too complicated and diving into the molecules of monosaccharides vs disaccharides, let's just just stick to the simple stuff. 1 teaspoon (4.2 grams) of sugar = 16 calories and 4.2 grams of carbs.
Ok, so what's the big deal?? Let's use the dreaded soft drink comparison: One 12 oz can of Pepsi contains approx. 40 grams of sugar which equals 9.5 teaspoons of sugar! This IS the meaning of the photo attached (at 9.5 teaspoons) to give you some comparison to how much we are dumping into our body and causing damage. Most sites recommend no more than 36 grams of added sugar for men and 24 for women. Holy grams of sugar Batman, we just blew right past that amount with ONE drink! 🙁
There are many ways to reduce the bad sugars and feel better on a daily basis. Reach out to me at Satori Health Coaching to discuss how you can avoid becoming yet another statistic of the Type 2 Diabetes epidemic! Believe me, your body will thank you in many way! Stay Healthy. 😀
