Memory Lane Cottage is an exclusive community dedicated to Dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, and related disorders. All rooms are private and contain a huge bathroom, with roll-in open showers. The monthly rate includes medication management, 3 showers per week, housekeeping 4 days per week, toileting every 2 hours, 3 meals and 3 snacks per day (additional snacks are available 24/7 to promote calorie intake and hydration). Rooms are available furnished free of charge (however families can choose to replace our items with their own). Rooms are also furnished with a flat screen TV and basic cableand wifi. Each room opens up to a central living room with a fireplace, and our community dining room, with open kitchen, allowing residents to talk to the chef, and watch their meal being prepared. Spacious secured courtyard, gardens, and covered patios are open for the residents and families to use. Extensive list of activities provides socialization, skill building, and life enrichment. Let us show you, that the joy of life doesn't have to end with a diagnosis of dementia/Alzheimer's! (Memory Care doesn't have to!)

Thank you to all the residents, staff, and family members who helped to make these lovely gifts. We made very tasty dog bisquits. Peanutbutter, bananas, and oaks were mixed, rolled, and cut, then baked and packaged. Over 50 gifts were made, to donate to the local Humane Society. Gigi came in for quality control testing, and thought they were perfect!

Guess who turned 102 this week? Born and raised in Tampa, can you imagine all the changes she has seen throughout her lifetime? Not to mention: Women's Rights, the first Miss America Pageant, the building of the Empire State building (ironically with 102 floors!), the Great Depression, the flight of The Spirit of St Louis, and Prohibition!

Our residents and staff are so brave! They enjoyed an educational program led by Debbie with some spooky Halloween Animals. Meet Beetlejuice (king snake), Shredder (tarantula), Blackie (crow), and Sweet Pea (possum). As a certified wildlife rehaber, Debbie raised the crow and possum from babies. Neither of them can be released into the wild due to life long disabilities.

Thank you so very much to all our families, staff, and volunteers that made our Holloween party a huge success! From hand made/hand decorated cookies by Lisa, great entertainment coordinated by Debbie, decorations by Cansu, and a carnival inspired lunch by Grace, we laughed, sang, and "monster mashed" all morning long!

A recent conversation with a potential employee:
I love working with seniors! I am in college to become a nurse, and when I graduate, I will keep working with the elderly. I even like the same "oldie" TV shows and music!
(Me)- Really? What's your favorite "oldies" show?
(Her)- Friends and Charmed
(Me)- ? *silence*
(Also Me)- Umm.. okay (let's try this again!) What about your favorite "oldies" music?
(Her)- Backstreet Boy's

And that's when I realized that the reruns of Gunsmoke, the familiar opening song of Little House on the Prairie, even the catchy whistling of the Andy Griffith show, all the things I fondly remember watching with my grandparents- are so antiquated, that I (like many of our resident's) am ... stuck in the past. And I am not ashamed of that, because- well, honestly- I never really liked "Charmed" to begin with.

Debby was kind enough to bring in some of her feathered friends for an interactive educational program. Did you know, for over 30 years, she worked with dozens of animals from around the world along side Jack Hanna? She educated people about wildlife, conservation, and the beautiful wildlife we share this planet with. Today was MLC's turn.. thank you so much for sharing!
