Team Spotlight Pick:
For our first spotlight we are starting off by introducing our Co P*s Dr. Yael Bensoussan, MD MSc and Professor Olivier Elemento, PhD.
Dr. Yaël Bensoussan is an attending laryngologist and an assistant professor in the Morsani College of Medicine. She has advanced expertise in voice, swallowing and upper airway evaluation and treatment. After Dr. Bensoussan finished her otolaryngology residency training in Canada at the University of Toronto, she completed her fellowship Laryngology at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles before starting the Voice Center and Lab at USF in Tampa FL. She also has a Masters in System Leadership and Innovation focusing on Voice AI solutions in clinical care.
Dr. Bensoussan’s background also includes a degree in speech pathology and a prior career in music, which led her to her passion for voice and laryngeal disorders.
Dr. Olivier Elemento is the Director of the Englander Institute for Precision Medicine (EIPM), Professor in the Department of Physiology and Biophysics, Associate Director of the Institute for Computational Biomedicine, and Associate Program Director of the Clinical & Translational Science Center.
Dr. Elemento received his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from University Paul Sabatier, a master’s degree in mechanical engineering from INSA Toulouse, a master’s degree in intelligent systems from the University of Paris, and a doctorate in computational biology from the University of Montpellier/CNRS, all in France. He completed postdoctoral training at the Lewis-Sigler Institute for Integrative Genomics at Princeton University and joined Weill Cornell Medicine’s faculty in 2008.
The Elemento lab combines Big Data analytics with experimentation to develop entirely new ways to help prevent, diagnose, understand, treat and ultimately cure cancer. Our research involves routine use of ultrafast DNA sequencing, proteomics, high-performance computing, mathematical modeling, and artificial intelligence/machine learning.
