Yesterday, CMS released the Request for Applications (RFA) for the Long-term Enhanced ACO Design (LEAD) Model — a new 10-year initiative aimed at expanding and strengthening accountable care participation across the healthcare ecosystem.

What’s notable:
This goes beyond incremental change. LEAD is designed to make value-based care more accessible and sustainable — especially for small, independent, rural providers and those serving complex patient populations.

• Flexibility to support prevention and health-focused care models
• Better alignment for high-needs and dually eligible populations
• Expanded opportunities for specialist integration

Why it matters:
CMS is continuing to move the market toward long-term, coordinated care models — where success depends on the ability to connect data, manage risk, and support patients across the full continuum of care.
