Los Palos to Los Angeles
5430 and 5424 Los Palos Drive. Two middle class homes in the suburbs. There were weeks and months that we never left unless it was driving to Tampa to fill our scripts of Oxy’s. There were times we thought we’d NEVER leave. Many times our addictions had us thinking our street was the center of the universe. A lot of our friends got locked up. Others are dead. Some we haven’t heard from and assume the worst. Tom made it out and enlisted in the Navy, thank God.
There were two choices, stay and die or accept help. Admit defeat to the handcuffs of addiction and leave Los Palos Drive.
In the past couple years or so, since Steve and I had the idea to become interventionists we’ve traveled the entire country. Myrtle Beach, Green Bay, many small towns in the Midwest, New Orleans, Los Angeles etc etc. The picture below is the two of us standing next to the Pacific Ocean right before an intervention in San Diego.
It still doesn’t make sense. Somehow we made it out and now the two of us push each other every day to do good in the world, and be better than we were on Los Palos. On to the next town, the next adventure and hopefully the next redemption story like ours.
