It’s Patient Safety Awareness Week, observed March 8-14, 2026. Patient safety often comes down to the basics, including safe patient movement.

❔Why is ambulation important to recovery? Ambulation, or assisting patients with movement, is crucial for both patient and healthcare worker safety. It helps prevent complications for patients and ensures healthcare workers can safely assist without risking injury. 💪 Benefits of early ambulation after surgery:

🚶Walking may promote blood flow of oxygen, stimulating circulation throughout the body.

đź’™ The gastrointestinal, genitourinary, pulmonary, and urinary tract functions may be improved by walking.

🚶Walking may increase muscle tone and strength, especially those of the abdomen and ankles.

đź’™ Ambulation may help seniors with coordination, posture, and balance. It may also aid in joint flexibility, particularly in the knees, hips, and ankles.

🚶Early ambulation may help increase seniors’ appetites after surgery.

💙 Walking may improve the patient’s feelings of independence, mood, and self-esteem.

Ultimate Medical Academy was the presenting sponsor for the Relay For Life of Greater Tampa Bay this past Saturday and helped raise $42,492 in support of the American Cancer Society

Throughout the evening, our community gathered to celebrate survivors, remember loved ones, and raise awareness in support of the ongoing fight against cancer and the impact it has on so many lives.

The UMA tent held a remembrance wall where attendees wrote messages of support on ribbons representing different types of cancer. Many shared words in memory of loved ones and in support of those currently facing cancer.

Thank you to our team members, the American Cancer Society, and our community for coming together to honor those affected by cancer and supporting the fight against this disease.

On Saturday, Team UMA came together for the of Greater Tampa Bay.

Ultimate Medical Academy was the presenting sponsor and helped raise $42,492 in support of the . Throughout the evening, our community gathered to celebrate survivors, remember loved ones, and raise awareness for a cause that touches so many lives.

At the UMA tent, attendees added messages of support and remembrance to ribbons representing different types of cancer and decorated UMA tote bags alongside fellow community members.

While the rain came down hard and brought the evening to an early close, it did not take away from the impact of the night or the purpose behind why this cause matters. đź’ś

UMA is a nonprofit healthcare educational institution with a national presence. Headquartered in Tampa, Fla. and founded in 1994, UMA offers content-rich, interactive online courses as well as hands-on training at our campuses. Our students also have access to academic advising, one-on-one tutoring, résumé and interview coaching, job search assistance, technical support and more.

We understand what employers look for in new hires, and we tailor our curriculum to meet those needs. We also guide our alumni in finding new jobs, progressing in their current positions and developing new skills to remain competitive in the job market. UMA is institutionally accredited by the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES).
